STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 drew 1-1 with Asheville City SC tonight at Erk Russell Park. After conceding first, Tormenta FC 2 responded with an exciting stoppage-time goal to tie up the match and steal Asheville City’s clean sheet in the 95th minute.
The first half was an even give and take between the two sides as Tormenta FC 2 and Asheville battled for control of possession and the first goal of the night. Just one corner from Asheville City separated the squads at the halftime break.
Asheville began picking up the pace in the second half with lots of action inside Tormenta FC’s box. After a string of corner kicks, Asheville’s pressing eventually gave way to the first goal of the night in the 64th minute.
Tormenta FC 2 responded with its first shot on goal in the 67th minute off a run started by TFC Academy product Tristan Deloach. Deloach and Jalen James both subbed on in the 57th minute and made immediate impacts on the match.
Finally, in stoppage time, Mutaya Mwape took a corner, and his ball snuck into the net just right to steal Asheville City’s clean sheet and earn a point for the home side with a final score of 1-1.
Tonight’s Player of the Match presented by Galactic Comics and Games is defender Salvatore Mazzaferro who led Tormenta FC 2 from the back and denied numerous chances from Asheville City to ensure a point for the home side.
South Georgia’s pre-professional soccer team, Tormenta FC 2, has helped nearly 50 players achieve their professional dreams since 2015. TFC 2 finished its season as champion of the Deep South Division in 2018 before making a run to the League Two Semifinals for the first time in club history in 2019. In 2021, Tormenta FC 2 finished the season with a 12-4-1 overall record (10-3-1 in the regular season), qualifying for the League Two Playoffs for a third straight season.
