STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC and Peachtree City MOBA faced off in a hot 4 p.m. kickoff at Erk Russell Park, and while both sides fought hard in the heat for three points, TFC Academy talent Elise Holcey, the USL W League’s first-ever player, was the difference-maker, scoring minutes after entering the match for a final score of 1-0.
With this win, Tormenta FC now leads the W League South Central Division with eight points.
Tormenta FC did well to slice through MOBA’s defense today with strong pressing throughout the match. The first shot on goal of the game came in the ninth minute from Isabella Gutierrez, who received a great ball from Elis Nemtsov, but the keeper got her hands on it. Tormenta FC continued its attack in the 14th minute as Jenae Packard dribbled through two defenders to record a shot that went over the crossbar. Just before the halftime whistle, Kelly Giddes almost headed in the ball after buildup play from Gutierrez, Nemtsov and Packard.
The chances continued in the second half with quality play from Jaida Nyby, who subbed on in the 46th minute.
Holcey played her first minutes today, entering the match in the 68th minute for her Tormenta FC debut and made an immediate impact, recording a shot on goal less than a minute after taking the pitch. Just a few minutes later, Holcey scored a beautiful shot from the far side of the box to record Tormenta FC’s first home USL W League goal and win at Erk Russell Park.
Tonight’s Player of the Match presented by Galactic Comics and Games is forward Elise Holcey, who had a game-changing performance during her debut today.
