STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 fought hard tonight against Asheville City SC, but ultimately fell 2-1 after stealing a goal back in the last minute of stoppage time.
Asheville City kicked things off with an early goal in the 7th minute by Lucas Gonzalez.
Tormenta FC 2 grew increasingly threatening throughout the first half, searching for the perfect opportunity. In the 22nd minute, a well-placed corner kick found its way to the back of the net but was called off for a foul. The home side then doubled its score in the 24th minute after counter-pressing a Tormenta FC corner.
Tormenta FC 2 continued its attack in the second half, vying for a chance to catch up and equalize, but no chances were seeing the back of the net.
In the 63rd minute, newly-announced Tormenta FC 2 defender Cristobal Molina received a second yellow resulting in a red in the 63rd minute, forcing the away side to play one man down the rest of the game.
Although a man down, TFC 2 saw some of its best spells of possession while being a man down and continued looking for dangerous opportunities to get back into the match.
Tormenta FC 2 kept pushing through the final minutes of stoppage time, stealing a goal back in the 93rd minute to bring the final score to 2-1. JC Ngando led the play which ended up with a Tristian DeLoach goal, his first for Tormenta FC 2.
With this goal, Tristian DeLoach becomes the second player from Tormenta FC Academy to score in a USL League Two encounter after forward James Brighton in 2016.
South Georgia’s pre-professional soccer team, Tormenta FC 2, has helped nearly 50 players achieve their professional dreams since 2015. TFC 2 finished its season as champion of the Deep South Division in 2018 before making a run to the League Two Semifinals for the first time in club history in 2019. In 2021, Tormenta FC 2 finished the season with a 12-4-1 overall record (10-3-1 in the regular season), qualifying for the League Two Playoffs for a third straight season.
