STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the four nominees for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) award for May, and the community will decide the winner. Forward Kazaiah Sterling, midfielders Adrian Billhardt and Gabriel Cabral, and defender Joshua Phelps are all up for the award after a 1-2-1 USL League One record in May. Tormenta FC is tied for first in the league for clean sheets with four and ranks second in shots with 130.
Voting for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) award will run through Thursday, June 9, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with voting permitted once per day. The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote (poll below) will comprise 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots will comprise 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprise 20 percent of the poll.
Voting results will be announced on Friday, June 10.
Player of the Month Nominees:
Adrian Billhardt, Midfielder: Billhardt had a productive month of May, helping on the offensive and defensive side and growing into an impressive form. The dynamic midfielder recorded his second professional assist in Tormenta FC’s 3-2 win over North Carolina FC, also recording an impressive 92.9% passing accuracy that match. Billhardt was an offensive engine this month with 10 shots, five chances created and three crosses recorded. Defensively, the German midfielder won 18 duels, while recording five tackles, two interceptions and one clearance.
Gabriel Cabral, Midfielder: Cabral was a machine in the midfield this month, playing nearly every minute through four matches in May and earning a League One Team of the Week appearance. The Brazilian midfielder earned an average passing accuracy of 86.4% and created 10 scoring chances. On the defensive side, Cabral recorded 23 duels won, six tackles, five interceptions and two clearances. Cabral also made seven shots and four crosses in May.
Joshua Phelps, Defender: Phelps earned one USL League One Team of the Week performance in May after his performance versus FC Tucson. From the backline, Phelps recorded an average passing accuracy of 88.2%, winning 19 duels and recording 14 interceptions, 11 clearances and six tackles. The defender also helped out offensively, recording one shot and two chances created.
Kazaiah Sterling, Forward: Forward Kazaiah Sterling continued to impress in May with his clinical finishes and game intelligence. Sterling scored his first two goals for Tormenta FC in May, one in USL League One play versus North Carolina FC and one in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play against Inter Miami CF. Additionally, the English forward recorded 16 duels won and one clearance defensively, and six shots and three chances created offensively.
