STATESBORO, Ga. – Following two games on the road, South Georgia Tormenta FC returns home for its third edition of Sunday Night Fútbol on Juneteenth taking on Forward Madison FC at Erk Russell Park, at 7:30 p.m. ET. Tormenta FC will celebrate and honor Juneteenth, with the theme night presented by Davis Bozeman Johnson Law. Two points separate South Georgia from league leaders Richmond Kickers, a win at home would have South Georgia fighting for a top position, 10 games into the season.
South Georgia were able to remain undefeated on the road following two draws. A 2-2 draw against Richmond Kickers and a 1-1 draw at Northern Colorado Hailstorm. Both draws have helped the team obtain points and keep a close distance to teams above them in the League standings.
To note, Head Coach Ian Cameron and Joshua Phelps will not be available for Sunday’s League One match against Forward Madison FC. Cameron and Phelps were shown red cards concluding Saturday’s game against Northern Colorado on Saturday, June 11. The game finished 1-1 after the home side found an equalizer in the 99th minute of play, following seven minutes of added time.
While South Georgia have enjoyed home games, it must be noted that currently, the team has been unable to win at home in 2022 in league play. Having previously played five home fixtures, South Georgia have been able to draw two and lose three.
A playoff position isn’t the only thing that is riding on Sunday’s game. Pablo Jara is currently in the top four of Clean Sheets in League One with three clean sheets. Ahead of Sunday’s game, Jara sits just one clean sheet behind the current leaders (4).
In June, Forward Madison were victorious in both of their home games against FC Tucson and Greenville Triumph. With only one win on the road in 2022, Madison need to impress in Statesboro if they want to continue to push for a playoff spot. Forward Madison currently sits 8th in the league standings with three wins, four draws and three losses. Nazeem Bartman has been their primary goal scorer this year with three goals.
Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC will host Union Omaha next Saturday, June 25, at Erk Russell Park, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
