COLUMBIA, Sc. – Today, South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 handed league rivals, the SC United Bantams, a 1-0 defeat on the road, thanks to a goal from Alejo Binaghi who grabbed his third goal of the season. Tormenta FC 2 obtained its second road win following a 2-1 win last Saturday at Dalton.
Tormenta FC 2’s Alejo Binaghi clinically finished the first opportunity for the Statesboro side in the 34th minute; a well-weighted pass by JC Ngando eased the goal opportunity for Binaghi.
Another opportunity for Tormenta FC 2 came in the latter part of the first half, testing the Bantams goalkeeper who made an impressive save to keep Bantams at a 1-0 deficit through the first half.
A solid and well-structured Tormenta FC 2 controlled the first half with two goal opportunities and possession of the ball.
South Georgia continued to control play and possession throughout the majority of the second half. Captain Henry Sach locked down the midfield and nullified the opportunities for the home side.
A Bantam’s free kick in the 78th minute broke through Tormenta FC’s defensive wall; an untested Ricky Cotton was able to lock down any danger.
Chemistry is essential to a team’s success, and TFC 2’s chemistry is only getting stronger following tonight’s win. Two back-to-back away wins have helped the team escalate in the South Central Division standings and apply pressure on the top two teams in the league.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Tiago Lopes who impressed in tonight’s win on the road. Lopes helped TFC 2 finish the game, shutting out the home side and was crucial in winning aerial duels. Lopes also proved to be an excellent passer, filtering in passes to the offensive line and creating aerial danger on set pieces.
South Georgia’s pre-professional soccer team, Tormenta FC 2, has helped nearly 50 players achieve their professional dreams since 2015. TFC 2 finished its season as champion of the Deep South Division in 2018 before making a run to the League Two Semifinals for the first time in club history in 2019. In 2021, Tormenta FC 2 finished the season with a 12-4-1 overall record (10-3-1 in the regular season), qualifying for the League Two Playoffs for a third straight season.
