STATESBORO, Ga. – Tormenta FC Academy secured their first win of the USL Academy League season with a 5-0 win over Southern Soccer Academy. Goals from TJ Headman, Jaiden Middleton, Nate Bowen, Murillo Lara and Andres Abril pushed South Georgia into the win column. Tormenta FC Academy marked an impressive performance in front of a cheering crowd this Sunday afternoon.
In a team effort, TFC Academy was able to get the first goal of the day in the 32nd minute of the match following a switched ball from Headman to Jaiden Middleton. Middleton’s shot was detained by the keeper, however, Nate Bowen was able to finish the rebound from the deflected shot; putting the ball into the back of the keeperless net.
Three minutes later, Middleton was able to redeem himself with a shot towards the right post from the 20 yard line, leaving the SSA goalkeeper without any opportunity to get to the ball.
A second half full of midfield battles finally saw TFC Academy breakthrough in the 62nd minute of the match. TJ Headman found the back of the net to get his well-deserved goal and the third goal for the home side today.
Murillo Lara sealed the win for Tormenta FC Academy today after winning possession of the ball through a free kick. A volley in the 78th minute from Lara would ultimately beat the goalkeeper and give TFC Academy the 4-0 lead.
Three minutes prior to the final whistle, TFC Academy would find the back of the net for the fifth time. Andres Abril’s shot was unable to be dealt with, scoring the fifth and final goal of the afternoon for an impressive season debut.
With this result, South Georgia obtained its first win of the USL Academy League summer 2022 season. A 5-0 win gives them a five goal difference and five different goal scorers.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is TJ Headman. The dynamic forward was able to cause problems to the SSA defensive line throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes. A goal and multiple opportunities made him tonight’s standout. His pressing ability and leadership were highlighted by the coaching staff following today’s 5-0 win.
