CONYERS, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 continues to apply pressure to the top of the South Central Division table after a 3-1 win at East Atlanta FC. Goals from Alexis Ledoux, Owen Marshall and JC Ngando helped Tormenta FC 2’s get its fourth consecutive win on the road.
Early opportunities from TFC 2 allowed it to set the pace from kickoff. In the fourth minute, a low-driven shot from Brian Gonzalez was taken care of by the Legends goalkeeper.
TFC 2’s first half was played nearly to perfection. Solid press and various chances created had Tormenta FC 2 knocking at goal’s door. However, crucial interventions from the East Atlanta keeper helped keep the score 0-0 throughout the first half.
South Georgia’s press led to the night’s first goal eight minutes into the second half. A well-read play by Ledoux helped him recover the ball, putting himself in a great shooting position. Ledoux’s shot was deflected into the top-left corner of the goal leaving the goalkeeper without a response.
The home team was able to find the equalizer in the 56th minute, though, after a low-driven cross found the East Atlanta forward.
Minutes later, though, a near-post cross by Ngando connected with Marshall, whose header was perfectly placed to the back into the net.
In the 70th minute, Ngando got his fourth goal of the season following multiple rebounds in the penalty box. A clinical finish to the opposite side of the goalkeeper sealed TFC 2’s third and final goal of the night.
To note, Tormenta FC Academy player Aiden Miller made his USL League Two debut in the 85th minute. TFC Academy player Grant Hampton also came in for his first USL League Two minutes this season.
A well-rounded win now has Tormenta FC 2 at four consecutive wins on the road and keeping the playoff aspirations alive. Nevertheless, TFC 2 is now six points behind second place with a game in hand.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Owen Marshall. Marshall was relentless on the defensive end and added to the attack by bagging Tormenta FC’s 2nd goal of the night.
South Georgia’s pre-professional soccer team, Tormenta FC 2, has helped nearly 50 players achieve their professional dreams since 2015. TFC 2 finished its season as champion of the Deep South Division in 2018 before making a run to the League Two Semifinals for the first time in club history in 2019. In 2021, Tormenta FC 2 finished the season with a 12-4-1 overall record (10-3-1 in the regular season), qualifying for the League Two Playoffs for a third straight season.
