STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 has announced the four nominees for June’s Tormenta FC 2 Player of the Month award, and the community will decide the winner.
Defenders Nick Akoto and Owen Marshall, midfielder JC Ngando and forward Alejo Binaghi are all up for the award after an undefeated month of June, winning their last five consecutive games. Tormenta FC went 6-1-0 (W-L-D) in USL League Two play with fifteen goals scored.
Voting for the Tormenta FC 2 Player of the Month award will run through Monday, July 11, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with voting permitted daily. The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote (poll below) will comprise 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots will comprise 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprise 20 percent of the poll.
Voting results will be announced on Tuesday, July 12.
Player of the Month Nominees:
Nick Akoto, Defender: Akoto’s month of June stood out for his excellent work rate going back and forth defensively and creating opportunities for the front line. Akoto earned his spot in the starting XI with solid performances playing most of the minutes in June.
Owen Marshall, Defender: Marshall’s ability to find goals through set pieces made him a standard for the TFC backline. With two goals and an assist this month, Marshall’s offensive presence helped Tormenta FC to victory in two games. The defender also helped maintain three clean sheets in June.
JC Ngando, Midfielder: Ngando continues to prove why he is one of the top prospects in USL League Two this season. With three goals and two assists this month, Ngando has been one of the most dangerous players in the South Central Division. Ngando leads the team in goals with five.
Alejo Binaghi, Forward: Binaghi ended the month with the most goals scored in June with four. Binaghi’s two goals against the Dalton Red Wolves gave South Georgia its first win on the road. The Argentinian forward also scored the game-winning goal at SC United Bantams, giving South Georgia three points on the road.
