STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC continues to remain undefeated against Greenville Triumph SC, as both teams featured in a ten-goal thriller tonight. Both teams hit the back of the net five times, with Tormenta FC’s Kazaiah Sterling fueling the start of the comeback with two goals in the first half. Goals from Jamil Roberts, Tobias Otieno and Adrian Billhardt clinched the incredible comeback after conceding four goals in the first thirty minutes of action.
Greenville found an early goal after a corner kick was played into the box. The Triumph’s header hit the crossbar. However, a lucky bounce gave Venton Evans an easy header to score the night’s first goal in the third minute. Allen Gavilanes found the second goal of the night after gliding through the TFC defense seven minutes later. Jacob Labovitz and Evan’s second goal of the night had the Triumph cruising to a comfortable victory 30 minutes into the game.
South Georgia found a glimpse of hope as Sterling, who had entered the game minutes prior, found Tormenta FC’s first goal of the night, assisted by Gabriel Cabral.
A minute before the end of the half, South Georgia was granted its first penalty of the season after a foul inside the box on Sterling. Sterling beat the goalkeeper, who went the opposite way, giving South Georgia a glimpse of hope as it cut its four-goal deficit in half.
Just before the six-goal half ended, however, Labovitz secured the Triumph’s fifth goal of the night.
In a half full of goals, Tormenta FC knew something had to change if they wanted to get something out of tonight against the league leaders.
South Georgia’s Roberts found the third goal of the night after a left-footed shot from long distance left the opposing keeper without a response. It was an important goal that helped Tormenta FC build momentum to find two more goals with a lot of time left on the clock.
Otieno scored his first goal for Tormenta FC in the 61st minute after a corner kick was placed into the far corner; Otieno’s header had the perfect amount of momentum behind it, which made it difficult for the opposing goalkeeper to make a complete save.
As time ran out for South Georgia, Pablo Jara placed a ball into the Triumph side of the field. Adjei took possession of the ball and filtered it to Fuad Adeniyi, who placed a low ball into the penalty box, where Sterling and Billhardt waited patiently. Finally, Billhardt took out the Triumph keeper for the unthinkable fifth goal, which signified the Tormenta FC comeback.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Owen Green. An impact sub, Green helped Tormenta FC get tonight’s colossal comeback by reorganizing the defensive line and creating opportunities for the offensive unit. In addition, Green’s outstanding performance helped Tormenta FC concede no more goals in the second half.
