STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC continues to regain its form at home following a 2-1 win against North Carolina FC. A Kazaiah Sterling brace helped Tormenta FC get its second win of the season at home and maintain its position in a playoff position. A penalty kick and a goal two minutes following an NCFC equalizer gave Tormenta FC three important points this Saturday night.
South Georgia started the first 30 minutes of the match with a complete domination of the ball. While North Carolina took some time to settle into the match, Sterling caught the defensive line off guard and earned a penalty after being fouled by an NCFC defender. The first half ended with pressure increasing by South Georgia, which kept looking for a second goal.
North Carolina knew an equalizer was needed to gain confidence in an intense game as the second half started. In the 78th minute, Jaden Seravia found the equalizer after a cross inside the box missed all Tormenta FC defenders.
Two minutes later, Sterling found his second goal of the match after a stellar through ball placed in by Chris Heckenberg put Sterling in a one-on-one situation. The England native took the keeper out of position, shooting it into an empty net. Sterling reaches five goals with tonight’s brace and helps Tormenta FC obtain its second home win this season and remain in a playoff position.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Kazaiah Sterling. After a slow start to the season due to injuries, Sterling now has five goals scored, three of which have been scored against Will Pulisic.
