STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC takes on the Charlotte Independence FC on Hunting and Conservation night sponsored by Lee Hill and Johnston Insurors this Saturday, August 13, at Erk Russell Park, at 7:30 p.m. ET. For the second time this season, Tormenta FC takes on the Independence FC at home after a 0-0 draw in its first encounter earlier this season.
South Georgia will take on the Independence FC for the second time in club history after an intense 0-0 draw where both teams had opportunities to go up but were unable to finish its opportunities. South Georgia entered the game as one of the best defenses in the league. Meanwhile, the Independence was coming as the league’s best offense. Tormenta FC obtained its sixth consecutive clean sheet of the season across all competitions.
Tormenta FC fell to Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC for the first time in club history last Saturday night. South Georgia was the better team throughout the first half; however, a re-energized Hailstorm side controlled the tempo of the second half to get two goals and seal its sixth win at its third home venue.
In July, Head Coach Ian Cameron and forward Kazaiah Sterling were named Coach of the Month and Player of the Month following four wins, one draw, and one defeat in league play while obtaining the highest tally of points in League One play with 13. Cameron and Sterling guided Tormenta FC to its first two wins at home and its biggest ever comeback against Greenville Triumph SC on July 13, where Sterling scored his first brace with Tormenta FC.
