STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the four nominees for the August Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) award. The community will help decide the winner. Forward Kazaiah Sterling, midfielders Tobias Otieno, Kingsford Adjei, and defender Jake Dengler are all for the award. Tormenta FC turned around the final half of the month with two consecutive 2-0 wins on the road at Central Valley and the Charlotte Independence. The offensive unit was able to step up its goal productivity. Meanwhile, the defensive unit ended the month with two consecutive clean sheets.
Voting for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) award will run through Thursday, September 8 at 11:59 p.m. ET, with daily voting. The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote (poll below) will comprise 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots will comprise 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprise 20 percent of the poll.
Voting results will be announced on Friday, September 9.
Player of the Month Nominees:
Jake Dengler, Defender: Dengler leads the team in most minutes with 2,069. The Baltimore native helped the defensive unit secure two clean sheets in the last two matches of the month and remained a dangerous aerial presence offensively. Dengler leads the team in clearances (112) and blocks (19).
Kingsford Adjei, Midfielder: Adjei was the second highest goalscorer for Tormenta FC this month with two. Adjei scored the second goal in South Georgia’s win against the Independence FC. Adjei leads the team with total shots (27) taken at South Georgia.
Tobias Otieno, Midfielder: Otieno is starting to become a vital part of the TFC midfield. Otieno contributes defensively as another defender when needed and led the assists charts this month for South Georgia.
Kazaiah Sterling, Forward: After missing the first two games of the month, Sterling returned to the field and recorded his third brace in Tormenta FC’s 2-0 victory over Fuego FC. Additionally, Sterling scored the first goal in Wednesday’s game against the Independence FC.
