MADISON, Wis. – On a rainy Saturday night, South Georgia Tormenta FC earned its eighth USL League One victory on the road this season against Forward Madison with a 1-0 result following a set piece goal by Joshua Phelps. The victory is only the second win all-time against Forward Madison, with the first win coming on the road against Madison on May 18, 2019.
In a controlling first half, South Georgia was able to bring the game to Madison after limiting the host offensively. Several shots on target saw Tormenta FC get the better opportunities; however, it was unable to get on the score sheet.
Moments after the start of the second half, Madison’s Abdou Mbacke Thian was shown a second yellow and subsequent red card, leaving the team with ten men for a majority of the second half. Minutes later, South Georgia took advantage of the opportunity via a corner kick placed in by Gabriel Cabral. Jake Dengler placed a header into the penalty area, finding his defensive partner, Joshua Phelps, who shot the ball to the top corner of the net – his first goal of the season.
South Georgia limited a ten-man Madison team to just two shots on target throughout the entire game and two corner kicks coming in added time.
Additionally, TJ Bush added his fourth clean sheet of the season in eight games played.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Joshua Phelps. The South Georgia defender scored his first goal of the season in tonight’s win at Forward Madison.
