STATESBORO, Ga. – In its 100th game as a professional team, South Georgia Tormenta FC looks to clinch a playoff position for the first time in club history in its first game at Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium. Tormenta FC takes on the Richmond Kickers this Sunday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. ET on Match Day 27 of the USL League One regular season.
South Georgia will inaugurate Tormenta Stadium this Sunday against league leaders Richmond Kickers, which have already clinched its spot in the 2022 USL League One Playoffs presented by Hisense. Varying results throughout Saturday’s fixtures, South Georgia could clinch a spot in the USL League One playoffs for the first time in club history.
Last Saturday, South Georgia obtained its eleventh win this season, achieving the double-digit win mark in a single season for the first time in club history. Now, the Statesboro side looks to get its first win at Tormenta Stadium and continue to fight for a home playoff game as the season ends.
Richmond is on a six-game undefeated streak, with its last defeat coming on Aug. 13 against Greenville Triumph FC. With a playoff spot secured, Richmond now pushes to keep a distance between themselves and every team in the fight for first place.
CLINCHING SCENARIO:
A Central Valley loss at North Carolina FC last Wednesday puts South Georgia closer to securing a playoff position. However, Central Valley must lose or draw at home against Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC on Saturday, and South Georgia must win on Sunday.
