STATESBORO, Ga. – In its final game of the 2022 USL League One regular season, South Georgia Tormenta FC earned its first-ever win at Tormenta Stadium with a 2-0 victory over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. An early Kingsford Adjei goal in the sixth minute of the game gave South Georgia its desired start to the game. Ryan Sierakowski’s goal in the 25th minute gave South Georgia a two-goal cushion that it never let go. With this result, South Georgia has qualified to the USL League One Playoffs, presented by Hisense, and will host its first-ever playoff game this upcoming Saturday at 7 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium.
South Georgia’s fast start gave the team an opportunity to control the tempo of the game. In the sixth minute, Ryan Sierakowksi was able to apply pressure to the defensive line to bring the possession of the ball back to Tormenta FC. Mukwelle Akale received the ball before crossing it to the far side of the box finding Adjei, who finessed the ball to the opposite side of the keeper, giving South Georgia the lead early on.
Less than 20 minutes after the first goal, South Georgia found its second goal of the night after a chipped ball into the box found Adjei, who crossed the ball into the middle of the penalty box, finding Sierakowski. Sierakowski controlled the ball and shot it to the top-right side of the net, making it impossible for the opposing keeper to get to the ball. Tonight’s goal was the first for Sierakowski representing Tormenta FC.
In a versatile second half, neither team found many opportunities on goal, Chattanooga was able to level the play; however, the Red Wolves were unable to get a goal back.
South Georgia finishes the regular season with 12 wins, its first-ever double-digit winning record in club history. With tonight’s clean sheet, TJ Bush finishes the season with five clean sheets.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Mukwelle Akale. Akale proved to be the ‘it’ factor in tonight’s match. Despite not netting an assist or goal, Akale created multiple chances and created constant danger to the opposing defensive line.
