STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the transfer of club captain Gabriel Cabral to The Miami FC of the USL Championship for an undisclosed transfer fee after two successful seasons with the Tormenta FC organization.
Initially signing with Tormenta FC 2 in 2021, Cabral moved his way up to the first team, where he enjoyed massive success on and off the field in his first year as a professional. After being named the fourth-ever captain for Tormenta FC this season, Cabral led the team to its highest-ever finish in club history and captained South Georgia through the final half of the regular season. Cabral finishes the season with the second most minutes played for Tormenta FC in an intense and productive season. Cabral recorded the most passes in the team and was one of the most productive players on the pitch when creating chances.
“I am forever grateful to the Tormenta FC organization for allowing me to play football again after no other doors opened up. I want to thank Tom Morris for giving me a chance to play for Tormenta FC 2 and Ian Cameron for believing in my potential and allowing me to play professionally in the United States. I also want to thank Jordan, Drew, and Jorge for helping me develop as a player and person. Finally, I want to thank Darin, Netra, Jeff, and Alaina for allowing us to accomplish something bigger than ourselves. From Jolene and Tyler in the kitchen to Reggie and Donald on the fields and maintenance to everyone in the front office, I am so thankful we worked together. I hope I impacted this community and left it better than how I found it. It’s been a real honor. We are champions.”

In the 2022 USL League One season, Cabral featured in all 33 games, starting 32. Cabral contributed three goals on the season and played over 2,900 minutes. Throughout his time at Tormenta FC, Cabral proved to be a natural leader, captaining both Tormenta FC 2 and Tormenta FC. Cabral was recognized as one of the best players in USL League One after earning a spot in the 2022 USL League One All-League Second Team.
Cabral’s move signifies the club’s continued commitment to developing its players on and off the pitch and helping them achieve their dreams at the highest level of play, wherever possible. The Path to Pro model, starting at Tormenta FC 2, helps players develop and provide a group of talented athletes an opportunity to showcase themselves to the professional team. As a result, many talented players have risen to the professional ranks from Tormenta FC 2, whether through the Tormenta FC first team, through professional teams in the United States, or abroad.
South Georgia also hopes to further integrate with the global game and use the transfer market to reinvest in its talent and build its club for today and tomorrow. Tormenta FC thanks Gabriel for his efforts and contributions while at the club and wishes him the best in his new journey.
In 2023, the club will play its first season from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia. Supporters should purchase tickets in advance to secure their spot at Tormenta Stadium and cheer on the USL League Two side and the reigning W League and USL League One champion Tormenta FC.
