STATESBORO, Ga. — South Georgia Tormenta FC concludes its 2023 preseason with a 3-0 win at home against Stetson University, with goals coming from Kingsford Adjei, John Murphy Jr. and a trialist. Adjei who had been absent in recent weeks due to injury scores his first goal of the preseason; meanwhile, John Murphy Jr. also gets his first goal for South Georgia.
After a strong start from the visiting team, Tormenta FC was able to settle into the match and started to gain possession of the ball, creating dangerous chances to test the opposing goalkeeper. Jackson Khoury was able to get the team’s first shot on target, but a superb save by the goalkeeper kept the score tied at 0-0.
As the first half came to an end, South Georgia was able to get its first goal of the game after a strong press by Pedro Fonseca paid dividends. He helped the team regain the ball, which led to a pass played to Adjei, who shot the ball to the right side of the net.
In the 65th minute of the match, Khoury played a well placed pass to Murphy Jr., which left him one-v-one with the goalkeeper. Murphy placed the ball to the bottom of the net, earning his first-ever goal for Tormenta FC.
A few minutes later, Tormenta FC secured its third goal of the match after a build-up play, which concluded in Mukwelle Akale chipping a ball behind the back line to find a trialist, who rounded the goalkeeper — leaving him alone with only the net.
Tormenta FC is set to begin its 2023 title-defending season on the road as it travels to Cary, North Carolina, to take on North Carolina FC next Friday, March 17, at 7 p.m ET from WakeMed Soccer Park (Watch on ESPN+).
