STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC finishes level 1-1 against first-year franchise Lexington SC on Health & Wellness night, presented by Optim Sports Medicine. Tormenta FC forward Kazaiah Sterling scored early on for Tormenta FC via a penalty kick, earning his second consecutive goal in two matches. To note, Sterling becomes the sixth player to captain Tormenta FC in its professional history after captaining the South Georgia side in tonight’s fixture.
Only five minutes into the game, poor distribution from the visiting team allowed South Georgia’s Andrew Akindele to recover the ball around midfield and sprint all the way to goal. Akindele was brought down in the penalty area after leaving the Lexington defense behind. Cool, calm and collected, Sterling secured the penalty shot to the left side of the net, leaving the goalkeeper standing still until the very second.
Lexington obtained the equalizer in the 16th minute through a corner kick opportunity.
Throughout the second half, South Georgia was presented with various opportunities to score its second goal of the night through strong possession plays that ultimately led to several set piece opportunities.
Several key defensive plays by South Georgia were crucial to the team’s earned point in tonight’s match, which included Davey Mason heroically clearing the ball off the goal line.
Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC receives the visit of Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, which will visit Tormenta Stadium for the second time this season on Saturday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium.
