STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC is set to take on Chattanooga Red Wolves SC for the second time in 2023 this Saturday, July 15, from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. South Georgia and Chattanooga faced off earlier this year in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the reigning League One champion secured a 2-0 victory on May 5, 2023. The goals were scored by Pedro Fonseca and current Richmond Kicker midfielder Ryan Sierakowski.
Tormenta FC secured a dominant 5-1 win on the road against Lexington SC two Sundays ago, securing its first win in six games. The goals were scored by Tobias Otieno, Deshawon Nembhard, Kazaiah Sterling and Matheus Cassini as well as an own goal scored by Lexington. Notably, South Georgia capitalized on three set piece plays. Prior to the game against Lexington, South Georgia had been unable to score via a set piece.
Against Red Wolves SC, the home side will aim to get its second regular season home win with the majority of the team being available for selection this Saturday. In 2022, Tormenta FC and Chattanooga featured in the 2022 USL League One Final, where Tormenta FC lifted its first-ever League One title from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Nov. 6, 2022.
Following Saturday’s fixture against the Red Wolves, Tormenta FC shifts its attention to the final regular season game of the Peach States Derby against Greenville Triumph SC next Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium. Saturday’s match will see either the Triumph SC or Tormenta FC lift the inaugural Peach States Derby trophy.
