STATESBORO, Ga. – For the third and final time in the 2023 USL League One regular season, South Georgia Tormenta FC will face off against Forward Madison FC, and both teams are looking to rebound after suffering hard-fought defeats last time out. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia (ESPN+).
Saturday is also Paws and Claws Night, presented by United Distributors Inc. August 19 will be one of the most exciting nights of the season with pets allowed at Tormenta Stadium as Tormenta FC plays Forward Madison. The club will also offer a special deal on White Claws during the match.
TFC enters the match on the heels of a 2-3 defeat to the Charlotte Independence and with an overall record of 8-11-3 (W-L-D). Mukwelle Akale, who earned the League One Goal of the Week award for his strike in Charlotte, North Carolina, has brought an important spark to the South Georgia side in recent weeks. Akale will not have to shoulder all of the goal-scoring pressure, though, with Kazaiah Sterling likely to return to the lineup ahead of the weekend showdown.
Madison travels to Georgia with an overall record of 10-6-6, sitting in fourth place in the standings. Last week, the Mingos suffered a 1-2 loss against One Knoxville SC and will be looking to get back to winning ways to stay in the race for the top spot in the regular season standings. Christian Chaney, who scored the only goal in Tormenta FC’s 4-1 win against Madison, leads Madison with seven goals scored in league play this season.
Following Saturday’s fixture against Madison, Tormenta FC shifts its attention to a home matchup against Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium (ESPN+). Wednesday’s match, which was originally scheduled for June 18 but canceled due to persistent lightning in the Bulloch County area, will be played in its entirety. Tormenta FC was ahead 1-0 against Northern Colorado after 45 minutes played in Statesboro, Georgia, but per League One guidelines, the match will resume as a new match kicking off with a scoreline of 0-0. All tickets already purchased for the June 18 match between Tormenta FC and the Hailstorm FC will be honored on the new matchup date. Please contact ticketing@tormentafc.com for any questions.
