STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC came into the weekend two points out of the playoff race and searching for their fourth win on the trot. Tormenta went a goal and a man down in the first-half leading to a 4-0 defeat to Union Omaha.
Tormenta had an early chance to take the lead in the eighth minute when Pedro Fonseca took a shot in the middle of the box. The shot went straight to the Omaha goalkeeper and was saved to keep the game scoreless.
Jake Dengler made a substitute appearance in the second-half after having missed two months due to injury. These were Dengler’s first minutes for Tormenta since the team’s 4-1 victory over Forward Madison on July 26.
TFC had a few opportunities to move the ball into the attacking third in the last 10 minutes of the second-half, but were unable to find a goal in the final moments of the game.
South Georgia currently sits just outside the final playoff spot that is up for grabs between them and sixth-place Forward Madison. Madison will be playing Union Omaha for their final game of the season at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Tormenta finishes the regular season in Charlotte on Decision Day as they take on fourth-place Charlotte Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 14.
