STATESBORO, Ga. – Midfielder Mukwelle Akale has been voted the South Georgia Tormenta FC Player of the Year for the 2023 season.
The Minnesota native made the start in 24 matches this season for the South Georgia side, while accumulating 2,115 minutes of playing time.
Akale created 38 goal scoring chances this season 4 assists in the USL League One season. He completed five assists in all competitions, adding his fifth assist during the 2023 US Open Cup campaign with a pass to John Murphy who converted his chance to give Tormenta a 1-0 lead in the first half against Rio Grande Valley FC.
The midfielder finished second in the team on goals scored, finding the back of the net on 11 occasions for Tormenta in the 2023 season.
The voting for Tormenta FC Player of the Year was determined by three voting bodies:
- The fan vote compromised 80% of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots made up 10% of the poll.
- Media ballots made up 10% of the poll.
