STATESBORO, Ga. (December 18, 2023) We are excited to announce the signing of English midfielder Mason Tunbridge. The 22-year-old midfielder joins the club following his graduation from the University of San Diego where he played his last three years of college soccer.
During his tenure at the University of San Diego, Tunbridge made 33 appearance, scored 12 goals, and tallied 13 assists. Following his final season for the Toreros, Mason was named a Second Team All-American, All-West Region First Team, and All-WCC First Team, and was awarded the WCC Offensive Player of the Year award. Tunbridge was also recognized following the 2022 season as a member of the All-West Region First Team, All-WCC First Team and in 2021, was an All-WCC Honorable Mention.
The Englishman spent the last two summers playing in the NPSL for Jacksonville Armada FC’s U23 team. He played an important role for the side during the 2023 season in which Armada finished second in the Gulf Coast Conference during the NPSL regular season. Mason’s performances earned him Gulf Conference XI and South Region XI honors following the season. During the 2022 season, he led the team to the South Region Championship where they were defeated 2-0 in the final.
Tunbridge spent his first two college years at Jacksonville University where he made 12 appearances for the Dolphins. Mason’s performances in the 2019 season earned him a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team.
“In our teams at Tormenta we always want goals in every position of the field. Midfielders who back themselves to make key passes, and to accept the responsibility to score goals themselves are key to our game model. We want that burden shared across the field and Mason is the kind of lad who backs himself to be a difference maker,” said head coach Ian Cameron. “Like all players, there are parts of Mason’s game we know need improving to make himself a more complete player, but the technical ability he possesses is hard to teach. It’s our job to help him maximize those abilities and become a top professional in this country.”
Discussing his decision to join the club, Tunbridge said, “I chose Tormenta after speaking to the coaching staff and seeing the vision for the team and my role within that which excited me. The league itself is well respected and I felt this was a great place to begin and develop my career as a professional soccer player.”
Mason said fans can look forward to him joining the club because, “I love to play exciting attacking football that will keep them on the edge of their seats!”
Tormenta FC fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of 2024, with Season Tickets now available for purchase.
