Head Coach Ian Cameron was named the Coach of the Week for week three after South Georgia was the only USL team to win on the road this weekend. Cameron coached a statement 3-1 win that saw the team concede just one goal in the match’s final moments. The victory was South Georgia’s first of the USL League One season and second win in a row following a 1-0 win against Club America CFL Spurs in the Open Cup.
South Georgia captain Doyle opened the scoring Saturday night with a rocket into the top corner, beating Richmond’s goalkeeper, Pablo Jara. Doyle also played a crucial role defensively for Tormenta by winning all of his ground duels, completing four clearances, and making two tackles.
Spengler assisted Tormenta’s second goal of the match after dribbling carefully through the entire Kickers’ midfield and playing a precise through ball to Watson, who beat the offside trap and found the back of the net. Spengler created three goal-scoring chances, won a match-leading three tackles, made two interceptions, and completed six duels.
Parker continued his exceptional form from the beginning of the season, making a heroic save in the fourth minute and parrying another Richmond shot heading toward the back of his net in the 15th minute. The South Georgia shot-stopper made seven saves, completed two contested high claims, and had ten recoveries against the Kickers.
Watson played 65 minutes for South Georgia, where he scored his second goal of the season, finding the back of the net in back-to-back USL League One matches. Watson’s goal came from one of his two shots on target. He also completed all of his tackles and won two ground duels.
