Tormenta FC and Georgia Southern Friendly Turns Out to Be Just That
Bo Pitts Field, located on the southeast end of Georgia Southern University campus, will stand as the shortest road trip of 2025 season for the South Georgia Tormenta FC men’s soccer team, as Tormenta Stadium lies less than a half mile away.
Under a totally blue sky and a 70-degree kick-off at 3:00pm, the neighbors played three periods of 30 minutes and finished in a 1-1 draw. In the first period, Georgia Southern’s Harry Dale set up Ricky Lewis on the left side of the net, and from a very narrow angle, Lewis drilled a curving, spectacular goal into the top right corner – a strike that Tormenta keeper Sam Jones had little opportunity to save. Under goalmouth pressure in the second period, Tormenta tied the game in a scramble that was termed as an own goal against Georgia Southern.
Both teams, especially Tormenta FC, had larger rosters on the sidelines than would be allowed in a regulation match as their first USL League One regular season game is still more than a month away, set for March 8 when they host the Richmond Kickers. While most of Tormenta’s 2025 roster has signed contracts, a few spots remain, with several trialists still competing for the coveted positions.
Tormenta FC’s next preseason action will be on the road again in a friendly on Saturday, February 8, against Atlanta United 2 (MLS NEXT Pro), at a time yet to be determined.
