Three Free Clinics Coming to Statesboro In May
South Georgia Tormenta FC is excited to announce Johnnie Sanchez as Tormenta FC Academy’s new Statesboro Director. Sanchez steps into a leadership role focused on expanding player development, community outreach and coaching in Statesboro with a key focus on growing the girls’ side of the Academy locally.
A Bulloch County native and longtime coach within the club, Sanchez will oversee all youth programming in Statesboro, ranging from Pre-Academy to MLS NEXT, ensuring high-quality development for boys and girls. Working alongside the Academy Vice President and program directors, Sanchez will lead recruitment efforts and new community initiatives, including Tormenta Futures.
“Stepping into the role of Statesboro Academy Director is truly an honor, especially following in the footsteps of those who have led with such passion and excellence before me,” said Sanchez. “I’m incredibly grateful for the constant support of this community and the trust they’ve placed in me over the years. I’m excited to continue growing the game and expanding the reach of Tormenta FC Academy right here in our community.”
Sanchez’s coaching roots run deep in South Georgia. A 2019 graduate of Portal Middle High School and 2023 graduate of Georgia Southern University – where he became a first-generation college graduate – he’s helped guide multiple successful high school and Academy teams, including a 2022 State Cup Championship and multiple playoff runs with Portal High School. He began his own soccer journey playing on an Academy team funded by the club’s Ibis Foundation nonprofit, mentored by former Tormenta FC professional USL League One player Joshua Phelps.
