South Georgia Tormenta FC continues its four-game away stretch in Mount Vernon, NY, as they take on league newcomers Westchester SC for the first time this season. The Ibis will take on Westchester at The Stadium at Memorial Field on Sunday, August 2, at 7:00 p.m.
Sunday’s match will be the first with Mark McKeever at the helm, following former head coach Ian Cameron’s departure from the club. Interim head coach Mark McKeever comes to Tormenta after leading One Knoxville SC for over two years. He left Knoxville with a record of 32 wins, 23 losses, and 16 draws.
Tormenta FC goes into the next match following a hard-fought game against FC Naples. Despite the 2-1 loss, forward Niall Reid-Stephen put his talent on display once again with a retaliatory goal in the first half of Wednesday’s game. A long ball over the Naples defense by forward Handwalla Bwana is all it took for Reid-Stephen to take possession, and after a quick step back to shake the defense, Niall netted his sixth goal of the season. The squad works to fix the errors of the last match and leave Mount Vernon with three more points.
Westchester SC enters the next match looking for more points to claim as the team sits last in the league standings. Their latest fixture ended in a 2-1 loss to Union Omaha, with their only goal coming from midfielder Prince Saydee. Saydee is currently tied for second-most goals in Westchester’s league campaign, while forward Juan Carlos Obregon Jr. sits at the top of their rankings with nine goals. Obregon Jr. has been a force to be reckoned with, being tied with FC Naples’ Karsen Henderlong for most goals in the league. With the Westchester striker as a prominent threat, Westchester looks to be an opponent that should not be underestimated.
Tormenta FC travels up to Mount Vernon, NY, to challenge Westchester SC for three more points on Sunday, August 10, at 7:00 p.m. From there, the Ibis will have two games against Richmond Kickers and Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, before returning home on Saturday, August 30, to face Forward Madison FC in more USL League One action.
