Ian Cameron’s June 3 Red Card Rescinded

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s appeal to rescind the red card shown to Head Coach Ian Cameron in the team’s USL League One match against Greenville Triumph SC on June 3 has been supported by an Independent Review Panel. Cameron’s suspension has been lifted; therefore, he will now be able to feature on the sideline in Tormenta FC’s regular season match against Lexington SC from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Saturday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Cameron was shown a red card in the 92nd minute of the second half in Tormenta FC’s match against the Greenville Triumph SC.

Tormenta FC Trounces North Alabama SC

STATESBORO, Ga. – Three second half finishes propelled South Georgia Tormenta FC to a comprehensive 3-0 over North Alabama SC on Sunday night at Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium. The Statesboro side now holds a 1-0-0 advantage in the all-time series record between the two USL W League clubs.

South Georgia started the match with fast and intense play, deploying several attacks down the flanks of the North Alabama defense. Alyssa Abbondandolo forced the first save out of the Alabama side, volleying a cross from Peyton Chick on frame in the fifth minute. In her second start of the season, Katie Phee found consistent success serving crosses into the threatening areas in North Alabama’s penalty box. Elis Nemtsov and Celine Ottah provided creativity in advanced positions throughout the first half, and the pair combined for several shots outside the penalty area. After a possession-heavy first half, the two sides entered the break tied 0-0.

Tormenta FC opened the second half again on the front foot. South Georgia found the breakthrough after 55 minutes of play through Emma Tucker, who finished past the North Alabama goalkeeper after being played behind the visitors’ defense by Anika Elias. Minutes later, Gemma Jefferson intercepted a pass in North Alabama’s half, touched beyond her defender and fired a low shot that rocketed into the left corner of the goal. South Georgia continued to hold possession of the ball as the second half wore on, finding the third goal of the match through Nemtsov, who tucked away a cross from Chick in the 80^th minute. Tormenta FC saw out the match through confident defensive play and earned all three points.

Tormenta FC Defeated At Home Against SSA

STATESBORO, Ga. — South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL Academy Girls team took on Southern Soccer Academy today from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia, where South Georgia was defeated 0-5. The match showcased the young local talent around South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

Despite a valiant effort, the team fell short against a formidable opponent, highlighting the competitive nature of the league.

Tormenta FC Earns Crucial Point in Peach States Derby

GREENVILLE, Sc. – South Georgia Tormenta FC earned a 1-1 draw tonight in the latest edition of the Peach States Derby against Greenville Triumph SC. Kazaiah Sterling found his first goal of the season after converting a late penalty kick. With tonight’s goal, Sterling leads the Peach States Derby in goals scored all-time with four goals scored.

The first half saw South Georgia apply pressure in every line, leading to several mistakes from the home side. Tormenta FC exploited the left side of the field with Jackson Khoury sending various crosses to the danger zone, playing freely throughout the left side. Despite not being able to convert, South Georgia was playing its best football.

TJ Bush returned to the starting lineup tonight and was able to make an immediate impact with two crucial saves; a shot from afar by the home side saw him dive to the top-right corner of his net to send the ball to the crossbar resulting in a corner kick for the Triumph SC. The corner kick was played directly toward goal, but Bush was able to get to the ball with confidence.

Tormenta FC’s build-up play caused several issues throughout the game. In the first half, Mukwelle Akale had a shot on target, which the visiting keeper sent to a corner kick.

In the second half, Tormenta FC started off with several plays, however, Triumph SC was able to find the back of the net in the 73rd minute of the match.

Tormenta FC was granted a penalty after the opposing goalkeeper fouled Andrew Akindele in the penalty area. Sterling was able to get his first goal of the season after a strong penalty kick was converted.

Tormenta FC is now undefeated against Triumph SC in nine consecutive games.

Akoto and Akale were subbed out of the game due to injury. Both players will be evaluated in the coming days, and the club will continue to update on the players’ health status.

Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC receives the visit of Lexington SC, which will visit Tormenta Stadium for the first time in its club’s history on Saturday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium.

Match Forecast: South Georgia Tormenta FC vs North Alabama SC

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC returns to action against North Alabama SC on Sunday night at Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. The contest against the Alabama side is the first meeting between the two squads since the formation of the USL W League.

Last time out, South Georgia fell 1-0 at home to division leaders Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves SC despite strong defensive play from Sade Heinrichs and Roisin McGovern. Tormenta FC enjoyed long periods of possession against its opponents but was ultimately unable to find the back of the net. The Statesboro side remains in fourth place in the South Central Division on five points.

Midfielder Smith Cathey picked up an ankle knock in the opening minutes of the match against the Lady Red Wolves and enters the contest on Sunday as questionable. Defender and captain Jhenesis Ellerbe remains in contention to feature in the squad. Tormenta FC will look to pick up three points on Sunday night in the team’s quest to reach the USL W League playoffs and defend last season’s championship.

North Alabama SC currently sits seventh in the South Central Division standings after three games played. The Alabama side features collegiate players from Samford University, the University of North Alabama, Drexel University and more. Head Coach Jason Batchelor and his squad are yet to open their goalscoring account for the season in the club’s first season of play in the USL W League.

Match Forecast: Tormenta FC at Greenville Triumph SC

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC is set to visit Greenville, South Carolina for the first time in 2023 to take on the Greenville Triumph SC in another rendition of the Peach States Derby this Saturday, June 3 at 7 p.m. ET from Paladin Stadium, the home of Furman University’s football team. South Georgia is one win away from winning the first-ever Peach States Derby cup after a 2-0 win from Optim Sports Medicine FIeld at Tormenta Stadium last April.

Unbeaten against the Triumph SC in eight consecutive games, the Statesboro side aims to continue its winning ways in Greenville at Paladin Stadium following five consecutive wins at Early Legacy College with tormenta FC outscoring the Greenville side at home 4 to 13.

South Georgia Tormenta FC obtained its first draw of the season last Saturday with defender Nick Akoto scoring his first professional goal nearing the end of the first half. South Georgia was able to once again have a great team showing with the offensive side being able to show great creativity and discipline throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes played.

With a nearly complete squad, Ian Cameron and his coaching staff will continue to build chemistry between Kazaiah Sterling and Arthur Bosua who both started for the first time together last Saturday.

South Georgia will aim to get its first win at Paladin stadium against the Triumph SC to secure the first-ever Peach States Cup which is played between the two teams. If South Georgia lose or draw this Saturday, they will have another opportunity in July to get the second win of the season against the Triumph SC.

Midfielders Kingsford Adjei and Matheus Cassini are still recovering from previous injuries, making them unavailable for selection this weekend.

Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC receives the visit of Lexington SC who will visit Tormenta Stadium for the first-time in its clubs history on Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium.

South Georgia Tormenta FC Falls Falls 1-0 to Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves SC

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC fell 1-0 to division leader Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves SC on Thursday night at Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium.

South Georgia weathered the early chances from the Lady Red Wolves, calling upon goalkeeper Keara Fitzgerald to make two crucial saves in the opening 10 minutes of play. Tormenta FC kept possession of the ball for large portions of the first half with the best chances coming from Abby Gemza and Tess Werts. Roisin McGovern and Sade Heinrichs, in the pair’s first start together in the backline, repelled Chattanooga’s attacking threats late in the first half, and the two sides entered the halftime break tied 0-0.

Successive corners to start the second half from Elis Nemtsov led to chances inside the penalty box from Gemza and Katie Phee, but Tormenta FC could not convert. The Lady Red Wolves took the lead following the threatening spell of possession after a dangerous cross deflected into the net. Werts forced another save from the Chattanooga goalkeeper after a curling effort from just outside the penalty box. South Georgia traded opportunities with its opponents in the closing minutes of the second half but was ultimately unable to find the equalizer.

South Georgia is back in action on Sunday night, hosting North Alabama SC at 7:30 p.m. ET before a two-game away stint, when the team travels to Birmingham Legion SC and Tennessee SC.

Tormenta FC USL Academy Girls Opens up 2023 Season at Home

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL Academy girls team took on the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC today from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia, where South Georgia were defeated 2-0. The match showcased the young local talent around South Georgia and the Low Country of South Carolina. Despite a valiant effort, the team fell short against a formidable, strong visiting team that were clinical in the team’s opportunities on goal.

Tormenta FC had several opportunities on goal as the home side tried to get its first goal of the night. Two shots were on target today with one opportunity hitting the crossbar nearing the sart of the second half.

Tormenta FC Announces Front Office Updates

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced Lindsey Cagle as its new Social Media Coordinator and Colby Beard as the Coordinator of Ticket Sales & Service. Kian Brownlee has been promoted to Director of Coaching for Tormenta FC Academy.

Tormenta FC also welcomes Cagle to its Digital department. Cagle will serve as the Coordinator of Social Media effective immediately.

Cagle is a graduate of Samford University where she majored in Journalism and Sport Media. The Georgia native grew up playing soccer and knew her future was in sports. Cagle brings a strong broadcast background, which she hopes will help her bring a new viewpoint to the Tormenta FC Academy social media channels and show the importance of the work that is happening within the Academy.

It is an incredible feeling to be welcomed to the front office and be able to contribute my skill set to furthering the program. Beard joined the staff in 2022 as a sales intern. Following a productive year, Beard was promoted to the Coordinator of Ticket Sales and Services.

Beard is a graduate of Effingham County High School and earned a Bachelors in Science in Sports Management from Georgia Southern University. Outside of work, Colby enjoys watching the beautiful game and is an avid beach/lake goer, where he enjoys to nap in a hammock.

Tormenta FC Academy coach Kian Brownlee has been promoted to Director of Coaching. Brownlee has over 21 years of experience in youth soccer and will provide quality leadership and coaching to young players in the Academy.

Under this new role, Brownlee will now oversee directors of Junior Academy, Select, MLS NEXT, and DPL, help Influence the periodization and curriculum design for each competitive program as well as hire and assign coaches within the competitive program.

Meet the Tormenta FC Coaching Staff: USL Academy

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL Academy team’s summer season is right around the corner, and the coaching staff guided by Head Coach Jordan Melia is set to take a huge step forward this summer. After being elevated to promote the young elite talent around the area, Melia and his coaching staff will now look to have a successful summer against strong opposition. The club maintained the talented and experienced group of coaches together, while adding a new member to the coaching staff to solidify the group. The coaching staff is looking to continue Tormenta FC’s winning tradition and take the team to new heights in 2023.

Pioneering the way will be Head Coach Jordan Melia. Melia is set to return for the team’s second USL Academy season this summer. Melia comes into 2023 with another year of experience after a successful summer with the USL Academy team in 2022. Melia now looks to lead a new team with a strong set of returners to more success in 2023. Melia also serves as an assistant coach for Tormenta FC’s USL League One team, working day in and day out with the defensive unit. Melia is responsible for analyzing the talent pool around South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina and recommends players that have the potential to be on a USL Academy contract.

Drew DeJohn joins the USL Academy coaching staff as an assistant coach, where he will assist Melia with the day-to-day physical preparation to help the team reach optimal performance in every game. DeJohn also serves as an Sports Performance Coach for Tormenta FC, as well as an Assistant of Team Operations in the Front Office and the TFC Academy’s Director of High Performance. DeJohn will also serve as the Head Coach for the U17 & U19 MLS NEXT teams heading into next season.

His attention to detail and desire to improve individuals will be evident throughout, and our players will enjoy being coached by him. Amin Qasim will also serve as a Tormenta FC USL Academy assistant coach. Qasim has seen success as a Head Coach, guiding Salvo Soccer Club and Minnesota ODP 2006B. Qaim has also spent time with Minnesota United FC and arrived in Statesboro nearly a year ago. Qasim is also the U16 & U15 MLS Next Head coach.

Rounding out the coaching staff is goalkeeper coach Sam Jones. Jones serves as the goalkeeper coach for Tormenta FC’s USL Academy team and Tormenta FC’s USL W League team and, is a part of the USL League One practice squad. The Tormenta FC Academy alum is looking to help the next generation of talent succeed on the field while practicing with the professional team daily. Jones has featured with Tormenta FC 2 and is a Winthrop University alum.
