Tormenta FC Academy Undefeated in USL Academy Cup

STATESBORO, Ga. – Tormenta FC Academy’s U17 Boys team competed in the inaugural USL Academy Eastern Conference event this weekend. The team came out undefeated and at the top of the Premier Group with two wins and a draw.

After a hard-fought match, Tormenta FC Academy drew to FC Miami City 2-2 on Friday with goals from TJ Headman and Cole Pampucha. Grant Hampton assisted TJ Headman who curled a right-footed goal to the far post. Pampucha then helped secure a point with an assist from Ethan Misere.

Sunday, the U17 Boys came back with a big 3-1 win versus Louisville City FC Academy. Headman scored a brace this match, with his second and third goals of the weekend. Thomas Stoever also scored, rounding the keeper and slotting it home with a left-footed finish.

Tormenta FC Academy kept its unbeaten streak in its last match with a final score of 2-1 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC Academy. Misere kicked off the scoring after a cross from Chase Cooke. Stoever then chipped the keeper to win the match and notch his second goal of the weekend.

Tormenta FC USL League One assistant coach and League Two head coach Ian Cameron led the U17 Boys team to success in the Eastern Conference event.

“This weekend I had the privilege of coaching one of our foundation teams at the inaugural USL Academy Cup event,” Cameron said. “We are looking to see if these guys can match the standards of the first team on and off the field, and our technical staff challenged the lads to showcase their potential this weekend. This team will help create fluency and continuity of supply to our first team, and experiences like this weekend are invaluable.”

The cup continues in May with the USL Academy National Event in Tampa, Florida, where Western and Eastern Conferences will meet for the first time. This event will also include the U13 age group, as well as U17.

Tormenta FC Academy Competes in Inaugural USL Academy Cup

STATESBORO, Ga. – Tormenta FC Academy will compete in the USL Academy’s inaugural 2020 Eastern Conference Event this weekend. The club has announced a U17 roster of 18 local youth players to compete as one of the 33 teams in the USL Academy Cup.

“The USL Academy Cup is a big step in the right direction for youth development in the United States” Tormenta FC Head Coach John Miglarese said. “We wish the best of luck to our Tormenta FC Academy team this weekend.”

Tormenta FC Academy’s U17 Boys face FC Miami City tonight at 7 p.m. ET at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The team will then play Louisville City FC on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 10 p.m. ET, followed by Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Monday, Feb. 17, at noon ET.

Tormenta FC uses its academy to develop youth in the region. Grant Hampton and Stephen O’Hearn, who are competing in the USL Academy Cup this weekend, recently made their first-team debuts during Tormenta FC’s preseason match against Charlotte Independence this past Wednesday.

Tormenta FC assistant coach Ian Cameron will be leading the U17 side this weekend for the tournament.

Tormenta FC to Host Fans, Food & Futbol Event

South Georgia Tormenta FC is excited to announce its third annual “Fans, Food, & Futbol” season kickoff event at The Clubhouse on Thursday, Feb. 27.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a Coach’s Show, emceed by Statesboro Herald’s Mike Anthony. Fans will hear from owner Darin Van Tassell and Tormenta FC players ahead of the club’s second professional season. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

At 7:30 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to compete alongside the professional players in a bowling tournament at The Clubhouse. Fans should register to bowl before the event on the Tormenta FC website, as space is limited. There will be prizes for the tournament winner and other accomplishments. In order to bowl fans must have purchased a Fans, Food & Futbol ticket or be a season ticket member.

All media, VIP season ticket holders and season sponsors gain free entry with a drink voucher for the event. Season Ticket Holders and game day sponsors get in for free without a voucher. General public tickets are $10, and student tickets are $1.

Fans who purchase a “Fans, Food & Futbol” ticket will receive a Tormenta FC vs. Charleston Battery preseason ticket for the next day, Friday, Feb. 28, at Eagle Field in Erk Russell Park.

Tormenta FC Reveals Assistant Coaches for 2020

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has revealed its USL League One assistant coaches ahead of the club’s second professional season, featuring a mix of new and familiar faces. Ian Cameron, Jorge Gonzalez and Nick Jaramillo will serve as assistant coaches alongside Head Coach John Miglarese in 2020.

“We have assembled a top group of coaches to assist me this season,” Head Coach John Miglarese said. “They have a variety of strengths and experiences which will make for a stronger environment for our players.

“Adding Ian as a full-time coach on my staff was essential after witnessing his quality firsthand last summer as our Tormenta FC 2 coach,” Miglarese added. “He is a bright young coach with head coaching experience that our USL One, USL Two, and U19 Academy players will enjoy working with. Jorge has been with me from the beginning at Tormenta FC. His energy, knowledge and expertise in directing our strength and fitness protocols will be vital to our success. Nick comes highly recommended from some top coaches in the game. His work ethic, passion and skill as a goalkeeper coach will challenge our goalkeeping core and be a valued asset in our USL Academy.”

Cameron joined the club in 2019 as Tormenta FC 2’s Head Coach, leading the team to a Deep South Division title and a Southern Conference title. The Glasgow native will continue to serve as the League Two Head Coach during the summer, while assisting the professional side. Cameron leaves his position as Men’s Soccer Head Coach at Eckerd College, where he recorded numerous victories with the team. He holds two master’s degrees in quantitative finance and business administration from Mercer University and the University of Glasgow.

Gonzalez returns for his fourth season as a Tormenta FC assistant coach. Gonzalez began his coaching career at Reinhardt University, where he served as an assistant coach for four seasons, along with coaching for the Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors. Gonzalez graduated from Bryan College with a degree in business administration with a minor in communications before attending Reinhardt University for his MBA.

Jaramillo joins Tormenta FC as the new goalkeeper coach, hailing from Young Harris College. There, he served as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach for the Young Harris men’s team, helping the team become Peach Belt Conference Tournament champions in 2016 and the NCAA Division II Southeast Region champions in 2017. He also served as the interim head coach for the women’s team that year. Jaramillo earned his associate’s degree in general education from Palm Beach State College in 2014. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Young Harris in 2018.

STATESBORO, Ga. – Single-game tickets for every 2020 match of South Georgia Tormenta FC and Tormenta FC 2 are available for purchase today. Fans can secure their tickets in advance of each match for a discount, with USL League One matches starting at $15 and USL League Two matches starting at $5.

Tormenta FC will kick of its second professional season against reigning League One champion North Texas SC at 7 p.m. ET from Erk Russell Park on March 28. Tormenta FC 2, meanwhile, kicks off its League Two campaign against Asheville City SC at 7 p.m. ET on May 15.

Tormenta FC to Face Charleston Battery in Open Cup

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC and Tormenta FC 2 have learned their opponents for the Second Round of the 2020 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday. Per a release from the U.S. Soccer Federation, the USL League One team will travel to play the USL Championship’s Charleston Battery at 7 p.m. ET on April 8 from Patriots Point, while TFC 2 will face off against the Championship’s Tampa Bay Rowdies at 7 pm. ET on April 7 from Al Lang Stadium should the USL League Two team win its First Round match against The Villages SC.

As a result of competition parameters for the Second Round, 15 of the 29 matchups will see First Round winners against Division II clubs, four First Round winners taking on Division III sides, while Division II vs. Division III will be on the marquee for 10 contests. Competition rules for the Second Round require First Round winners to be paired against either a Division II or Division III club. Further, the tournament has a universal provision to preclude teams from the same qualifying pool playing their first Open Cup game from facing each other. Each pro division is considered a unique qualifying pool regardless of the number of leagues in the division.

Pairings were made on a geographical basis within the parameters listed above. If three or more teams/pairings were from the same proximity, matchups for these teams were made by random selection. Instances where a logical geographic fit did not exist were resolved by random selection.

Eleven lower-seeded U.S.-based Division I Major League Soccer clubs will enter in the Third Round, which will be played April 21-23, while the remaining 12 MLS sides will take the field in their first Open Cup action in the Round of 32, which takes place May 19-20.

Home teams for each round are determined by random selection among those who apply to host. Clubs whose venue meets minimum tournament standards are given priority.

Tormenta FC Announces Orlando City B Preseason Match

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced it will play a preseason match on March 7 against Orlando City B ahead of its 2020 USL League One season. The club’s preseason lineup also features matches against the USL Championship’s Charleston Battery, Charlotte Independence and Tampa Bay Rowdies.

2020 Schedule Revealed for TFC 2

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 has revealed its entire schedule for the 2020 USL League Two regular season, featuring matchups against the Charlotte Eagles, Dalton Red Wolves SC, Asheville City SC and more.

Tormenta FC 2 will face off against Asheville City in its home opener, which is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, May 15, from Eagle Field at Erk Russell Park. All TFC 2 matches are scheduled to be played on the campus of Georgia Southern University, while the club continues to finalize a match to be played in Savannah, Georgia.

Tormenta FC 2 to Face The Villages SC in Open Cup

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2, one of the top pre-professional teams across North America, will face off against a familiar foe in the First Round of the 2020 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, as TFC 2 will meet fellow USL League Two side The Villages SC at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 25, from the The Villages Soccer Complex in Summerfield, Florida.

Tormenta FC 2 enjoyed its best year of play in 2019, defeating professional side Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in the U.S. Open Cup before winning the Deep South Division and Southern Conference titles in league play. The team, which will likely feature numerous talented Tormenta FC Academy players and high-level collegiate stars, will aim to build on its recent success entering 2020.

The 19 First Round winners will earn the opportunity to face professional clubs in the Second Round, which is scheduled for April 7-9. Twenty-five USL Championship (Division II), 6 USL League One (Division III) and 8 National Independent Soccer Association (Division III) professional teams await the First Round winners in the only major American team sports competition in which amateurs can earn the chance at meaningful games against professional clubs and players.

The Second Round pairings and possible pairings will be announced on January 29.
