STATESBORO, Ga. – April 25, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC faces Charlotte Independence in the inaugural USL Jägermeister Cup match at 7:30 p.m. on April 27 at the beautiful Tormenta Stadium.
Recipe Review
Looking to return to form after Saturday’s match against Greenville Triumph SC, South Georgia is hungry to swipe a win against Charlotte Independence. While the two teams have not faced each other on the pitch for the 2024 season, both teams pose unique threats coming into the match. South Georgia Tormenta FC comes into the matchup with a 2-2-1 (W-L-D) record for the 2024 regular season, and Charlotte Independence enters the match with a 2-1-1 (W-L-D) record.
Key Ingredients
Given the emphasis on attacking in the USL Jägermeister Cup, South Georgia will look to key players such as Sebastián Vivas and Gabriel Rodriguez to press against Charlotte’s defense and score as many goals as possible.
Defenders Preston Kilwien and Jake Dengler, alongside keeper Ford Parker, pose a formidable threat against Charlotte. The back line will look to defend the net, while assisting attackers in advancing plays forward.
Foe’s Formula
South Georgia players will look to challenge Charlotte Independence’s goalkeeper, Austin Pack, who could pose a significant challenge to the Ibises quest to score, as he has only conceded three goals this season. Pack made six saves against both Union Omaha and Greenville Triumph SC. Pack has also played a role in Charlotte’s Round of 32 Open Cup run, making two saves in the penalty shootout against Rhode Island FC.
The USL Jägermeister Cup Format
The USL Jägermeister Cup is an in-season, World Cup-style tournament that creates additional matches of consequences in the annual calendar. The USL Jägermeister Cup has dedicated matchdays integrated throughout the USL League One season.
The USL Jägermeister Cup, in its inception, aims to bolster competitive play and incentivize attacking through emphasizing regional rivalries and providing nontraditional modifications to determine winners. The USL Jägermeister Cup is the first intraleague cup offered by the United Soccer League, making these regionally-grouped matchups a significant stride in soccer history for the United States.
