STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed Kristo Strickler to its 2021 USL League One roster, pending league and federation approval. Adding to Tormenta FC’s attack, the rising talent is eligible to play on Sunday as the club hosts Toronto FC II at Erk Russell Park, the second of four June matchups between the two sides.
"We're excited to welcome Kristo to Tormenta FC,” TFC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. “This is a young man who is full of goals, runs, power and ingenuity. He is a welcome addition to our front line, and I think our fans will grow to love this kid.
“Kristo has been a top performer for Virginia Tech in the ACC, a conference that is littered with future MLS talent. Let's let him settle in, get comfortable in our environment and over the course of the season, we will see him go from strength to strength."
A native of Hilliard, Ohio, Strickler excelled at Virginia Tech, scoring 27 goals and recording nine assists in 67 appearances. The forward led Virginia Tech to three appearances in the NCAA Men’s Soccer tournament and also earned First Team All-ACC honors in 2020.
"I am excited to join the Tormenta FC family and am looking forward to starting my professional career," Strickler said. "I'm ready to get to work, compete and fight for the club."
Strickler and the Tormenta FC squad will face Toronto FC II this Sunday, June 13, at 8 p.m ET at Erk Russell Park. Tormenta FC earned a late win against Toronto FC II on Wednesday and now looks to continue its win streak and gain momentum with a win at home. Fans wanting to attend tomorrow’s match should purchase their tickets, including season tickets, half-season plans or quarter-season plans, in advance.
