South Georgia Tormenta FC heads to Omaha, Nebraska, to kick off its three-match away trip, where the team will travel for ten straight days. The first match sees Tormenta FC face Union Omaha in a USL League One matchup at Werner Park on Friday, July 18, at 6:00 p.m. CT (7:00 p.m. ET).
Friday’s matchup may be a nostalgic one for Tormenta midfielder Conor Doyle, as he returns to the home grounds of his former club. During his time at Omaha, Doyle made 96 appearances, scored three goals, and tallied 16 assists. Now, the veteran midfielder returns to Werner Park clothed in navy and magenta.
The Ibis hosted Union Omaha early in the season, with the game ending in a 3-1 win for the Nebraska side at Tormenta Stadium. Since then, the squad has undergone numerous trials and growth opportunities to determine what works, all with the goal of building a stronger Tormenta team. As a result, the team’s scoring output has increased against teams like FC Naples and USL Championship side Charleston Battery, showing steps in the right direction. Tormenta will look to carry that scoring momentum going into the match with Omaha.
Tormenta’s latest match was a 2-1 defeat to One Knoxville SC at home. Despite the scoreline, the fixture highlighted the connection between midfielder Mason Tunbridge and forward Niall Reid-Stephen, with Saturday’s goal coming from the Englishman’s through-ball to the Barbadian international.
Union Omaha goes into Friday’s fixture following two losses in their last three matches. Teams like AV Alta have managed to put the ball past Omaha’s keeper, highlighting the potential for Tormenta to find a breakthrough against the Nebraska side. However, their recent 2-1 win over Charlotte Independence suggests that they won’t make it easy for the Ibis. The South Georgia squad will need to be ready for a potentially intense battle on Friday.
Tormenta FC faces Union Omaha at Werner Park, looking for three points to advance in the league standings on Friday. From there, the Ibis will face two more teams on the road before returning to Tormenta Stadium on Saturday, August 2, to play Greenville Triumph SC.
