Dear Tormenta Nation,
The end of the 2020 season marks a pivotal milestone for South Georgia Tormenta FC – five years as a club. Five years of thrilling home matches, title-winning seasons and twitter-breaking goals and memes. Looking back, there is so much to celebrate, and we plan to highlight these victories and achievements, big and small, over the course of this offseason as we prepare for 2021.
We are blown away by the support from our fans — the heartbeat of Tormenta FC — over the last five years. Those who have believed in us since the beginning, fans that bled magenta and blue for a new soccer club in rural South Georgia, and those who continue to show up for every game day in Erk Russell Park, regardless of the weather or standings, have helped push us to new heights.
Statesboro, Georgia, is now a professional sports destination. Think about that and just absorb it for a minute. While communities far and wide across Southern Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina continue to represent the magenta and blue at the academy level, the club’s state-of-the-art soccer stadium is starting to take shape, as work continues on Tormenta Way in Statesboro.
We are especially grateful for the growth of Tormenta Nation over these past eight months. Even amidst a global pandemic, new life-long Tormenta FC fans emerged and showed overwhelming support, cheering us on locally and around the world.
On behalf of Tormenta FC, we want to thank you all for making our most unconventional season so worthwhile and rewarding. We’re stronger because of the adversity we faced together this year, and we cannot wait to see what 2021 has in store for our club.
Despite the hardships, we have taken some significant strides this year, and we’re excited to see the fruits of these efforts. In 2020, Tormenta FC safely welcomed thousands of fans into Erk Russell Park and close to 100,000 total viewers on ESPN+. TFC Academy continues to pursue success and was named a founding member of the new USL Academy League set to kick off in 2021. We get to come to work every day and try to carve out new ways for you to connect with all of us. You have our promise that we will only get better.
Tormenta FC may be the smallest professional soccer market in the United States, but we certainly have a lot to say. We can’t wait to continue this incredible journey with you, the fans, and we hope that you join us in 2021 as we continue to build our legacy. Vamos Tormenta!
