STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 travels to face Charlotte Independence 2 on Wednesday, May 18, at 7 p.m. ET for its first road match of the 2021 USL League Two season. Sitting first in the Deep South Division standings, Tormenta FC 2 looks to carry over its home success on the road Saturday.
On Friday, May 14, Charlotte Independence 2 took on the Charlotte Eagles for its 2021 season opener, drawing 1-1 to the local Eagles. The Independence 2 went 3-10-1 in 2019, finishing up with a nine-match losing streak before winning their final two matches of the season.
Tormenta 2 enters Saturday’s matchup with a record of 2-0-0 after dominating its first two matches against the Southern Soccer Academy Kings and Asheville City SC. TFC 2 has conceded just one goal thus far and has scored seven goals, recorded by Rodney Michael, Gabriel Cabral, Daniel Strachan and Gabriel Rodriguez.
Next week Tormenta FC 2 returns to Erk Russell Park for a two-match home streak against the Dalton Red Wolves and Peachtree City MOBA on Tuesday, May 25 and Friday, May 28 at 7 p.m. Tormenta FC encourages fans to wear masks until the vaccine becomes more widely available. Due to limited capacity, the club urges all fans to purchase their tickets, including season tickets, half-season plans or quarter-season plans, in advance.
The 14-match League Two season will spread across 10 weeks of regular season play culminating on the road against the Red Wolves Friday, July 9. This pre-professional league will offer players the chance to hone in on crucial technical and tactical skills before making the leap to the professional level. Coach Morris hopes to create an environment for young guys to grow as players, as well as be recruited by the Tormenta FC’s League One team. Since beginning play in 2016, TFC 2 has helped nearly 50 players achieve their professional dreams.
