STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC extended its hot streak tonight versus Toronto FC II with a 1-0 win at Erk Russell Park, recording its first three-game win streak since the 2019 USL League One season. Dominating for much of the match, Tormenta FC got on the board in the first half with Kobe Perez’s first professional goal, assisted by Azaad Liadi.
Both teams came out of the gate ready to compete tonight, wasting no time to create scoring chances. Tormenta FC dominated for much of the match, recording a total of 18 shots to Toronto’s four. Tensions were high after competing this past Wednesday with a lot of physicality in the first half and Toronto taking out its frustration out on the pitch. In the 22nd minute, Luca Mayr-Fälten took a corner kick which Marco Micaletto nearly converted.
In the 41st minute, Tormenta FC took the lead as Perez blasted a shot to the top corner, assisted by Liadi. This was Perez’s first professional goal after recently returning from evaluations with the Guatemalan National Team.
Tormenta FC started off the second half with an offside goal by Micaletto as the home side pushed for a second tally. Chilean goalkeeper Pablo Jara helped keep Tormenta in the game with an incredible save on Toronto’s Rohan Goulbourne 53rd-minute strike. The last few seconds left in the game, Toronto tried to score from a corner kick, but the ball deflected wide and out of play.
Stefan Mueller returned to the back line tonight for his first league match since 2020, and Kristo Strickler made his professional debut tonight for Tormenta FC, hailing from Virginia Tech, where he was the 30th overall pick by Houston Dynamo in the MLS SuperDraft.
Tonight’s Man of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Kobe Perez, who scored tonight’s game-winner and recorded a 94.7 passing accuracy, while winning eight duels and creating two chances.
Tormenta FC continues its home streak on Saturday, June 19, as it takes on regional rival and fellow USL W-League founding member Greenville Triumph SC at Erk Russell Park. The club has partnered with the Bulloch County NAACP to host a Juneteenth Night with a portion of the proceeds going to the local non-profit.
