STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC continues its home schedule on Saturday, June 19, as it takes on regional rival and fellow USL W-League founding member Greenville Triumph SC at Erk Russell Park. Tormenta FC has partnered with the Bulloch County NAACP for Saturday’s match to raise money and awareness for the local nonprofit, while also registering new voters at the match.
With three wins in a row, Tormenta FC has jumped up to fifth in the 2021 USL League One standings and still has its sights set on a playoff spot, which includes the top six teams in the league. After defeating Chattanooga Red Wolves SC once and Toronto FC II twice, Tormenta FC takes on the tough Greenville squad, which recently lost 3-0 to North Texas SC on June 13 before bouncing back with a 2-1 win versus last-place North Carolina FC.
New signee Kristo Strickler made his professional debut last match, and almost scored a goal to double Tormenta FC’s lead against Toronto. Additionally, former Tormenta FC 2 offensive talent Rodney Michael is now eligible to make his USL League One debut tomorrow against Greenville Triumph. Raheem Somersall, who was on international duty with Saint Kitts and Nevis, has returned and will also be available for selection.
The last time the two Southern sides faced off was on May 22 at Erk Russell Park, where Greenville pulled out a 1-0 win with a late goal. The Tormenta FC squad seems to have found its momentum since then and looks to take all three points.
Fans wanting to attend tomorrow’s match should purchase their tickets, including season tickets, half-season plans or quarter-season plans, in advance. Following Saturday’s rivalry matchup, Tormenta FC takes on Toronto FC II for the third time this season on the road before returning to Erk Russell Park to host the Canada side for the final time in 2021. Due to inclement weather on June 5, Tormenta FC has partnered with Statesboro Pride again to close out Pride Month in full force on Wednesday, June 30.
