STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 is excited to announce goalkeeper Eric Cotton to its 2022 USL League Two roster, pending league and federation approval. A safe and secure goalkeeper, Cotton comes to the club after an impressive season starting in net for the University of the Pacific.
Cotton attends the University of the Pacific where he has cemented himself as the starting goalkeeper for two seasons and is looking for an NCAA tournament run with the Pacific Tigers in 2022. Prior to Pacific, Cotton spent two years (2018- 2019) with Western Michigan University where his team battled in back-to-back Mid-American Conference Championship Finals.
In 2021, the goalkeeper appeared in all games for the Pacific Tigers and helped the team achieve a winning record of 9-5-2, earning a WCC Defensive Player of the Week title.
Cotton brings previous USL League Two experience from Oakland County FC in 2021 where he played in seven games and registered 20 saves in 450 minutes. Starting in 2015, the keeper also competed in three seasons for the Portland Timbers’ U.S. Soccer Development Academy team.
“Eric is a very well-rounded GK who comes from a program with a similar playing ethos to Tormenta FC, which is one of the reasons we were keen to bring him into our environment for the USL 2 season.” Head Coach Tom Morris commented. “While being a strong shot-stopper, Eric also has the composure and ability to spread the field with his range of passing. Eric is coming to us off the back of two very strong seasons as the starter at the University of Pacific and we are looking forward to having him join our GK union.”
“Tormenta FC 2 is where I wanted to be this summer as the gaffer Tom Morris is building a championship-winning squad and a positive environment for us to continue our development,” Cotton said. “I know the opportunity to be with Tormenta this summer will be an amazing way to introduce myself to the professional rankings.”
Cotton joins French forward Alexis Ledoux and electric midfielder Jalen James on the team’s 2022 roster. Supporters should stay tuned for additional USL League One, League Two and W League player announcements to come, as well as the full 2022 USL League Two schedule release.
Tormenta FC looks forward to opening its new soccer-specific stadium in Statesboro this year, which will serve as home to the club’s USL League One, League Two and W League squads, as well as Georgia Southern University Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I soccer teams.
