STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced forward Kelly Giddes its 2022 USL W League roster and attacking line, pending league and federation approval. Giddes plays for Palm Beach Atlantic University and attended the team’s open trial on Dec. 12.
“Kelly is very athletic and can play as a wide player on either side,” Head Coach Jim Robbins commented. “She has the skill set to play higher in the team as a wide forward or deeper as an attacking outside back in our system. She will be tough to contain when she goes forward and can shut down the opposition’s wide players when defending.”
USL W League Head Coach Jim Robbins was able to watch Giddes play and lead a number of the trialists, whether it be during warmups or scrimmages Giddes was able to stand out by helping her teammates perform to the best of their abilities.
Giddes joined the PBA women’s soccer team in 2016 where the workload increased throughout her first three seasons, totaling 32 games played and recording two goals and two assists. In 2021, Giddes played 14 matches, starting in 9 to help PBA to a 10-5 record and advance them to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
“I cannot wait to represent Tormenta FC in the USL W League this summer,” Giddes said. “I chose Tormenta because I really liked the environment and coaching staff when I came to the open tryout.”
In June 2021, Tormenta FC was named a founding member of the USL W League, an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch. For two decades between 1995 and 2015, the W League saw some of the biggest names past and present in the sport compete on the field, and this new era will build on the legacy of its predecessor. In alignment with the USL League Two season, the W League will kick off in May and end with the W League Playoffs and W League Final in late July.
