STATESBORO, Ga. – July 5, 2024 – Tormenta FC’s Courtney Chochol was selected as the June Player of the Month for her exceptional performance on the pitch.

In a close vote, Chochol earned 33% of the vote to win the accolade for the month of May.

During the month of June, Chochol became the leading goal scorer of Tormenta’s W League for the month of June, tallying seven goals. 

Notably, Chochol scored a hat trick in the final match of the season on June 30 against Fayetteville Fury. The winger also scored a brace against the South Carolina United Bantams to solidify a 5-0 win. 

While often playing centrally, Chochol also created multiple goal scoring opportunities playing on the wing. Chochol provided a key assist to Carlyn Presley against Wake FC to win the match with a 0-1 score.

STATESBORO, Ga. – July 2, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League team has announced four nominees for the June Tormenta FC W League Player of the Month award. Fans have their chance to vote using the Tormenta FC app, which can be downloaded here.

Smith Cathey, Courtney Chochol, Briana Eads, and Elis Nemtsov are up for the honor for their June form.

Player of the Month Nominees:

Smith Cathey, Midfielder: In June, Cathey played a more prominent role for South Georgia in the midfield, netting two goals for the Ibises. The Georgia Southern midfielder also played an integral role in connecting the Tormenta FC backline to its attack with her ability to carry the ball and play line-breaking passes.

Courtney Chochol, Forward: Chochol scored a team-leading seven goals during June. The Quinnipiac University regularly started central for South Georgia but found herself often playing wide as a creative outlet for the Ibises. One instance included Chochol assisting Carlyn Presley’s game-winning goal against Wake FC.

Briana Eads, Defender: The North Alabama defender was a rock at the back for South Georgia during June, contributing the four clean sheets. Eads also found the back of the net twice, scoring the game-winning goal on June 2, as well as the final goal of the season on June 30.

Elis Nemtsov, Midfielder: The South Georgia winger netted four goals in June, bringing her tally for the season to seven goals. Nemtsov consistently pushed the ball down the wings for South Georgia, taking on defenders herself or playing one-twos with her midfield partners.

STATESBORO, Ga – July 3, 2024 – Tormenta FC’s goalkeeper Jenna Moran was named to the USL W League Team of the Month for her June form. This honor comes on the heels of a 7-0 win on June 30 against Fayetteville Fury. 

Moran maintained three clean sheets and only conceded four goals in the month of June. Her leadership and resilience on the pitch led the team to five wins, one draw and zero losses while in the goal. 

Moran was a new face to the USL W League roster for the 2024 campaign. Moran joined the team from Charleston Southern University. The standout goalkeeper Big South Goalkeeper of the Year after winning the award before in her junior year. She was also named First Team All Big South in 2021 and 2023. 

While at Charleston Southern University, she made 87 saves, leading the Big South Conference with an impressive .837 save percentage in Big South play. Moran finished her collegiate career totaling 201 saves, allowing only 50 goals, and posting ten shutouts.

STATESBORO, Ga. – June 30, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC secured a resounding victory in its final match of the season, taking on Fayetteville Fury and earning a 7-0 score at Tormenta Stadium. South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League ended the season second in the Eastern Conference South Atlantic Division.

Two key hat tricks set the stage for the win in Tormenta’s last game of the season.

This match marked the second time South Georgia had taken on the Fury in the 2024 campaign. In the two teams’ last battle during Tormenta’s season opener, South Georgia beat out the Fury with a 0-5 score. 

Tormenta FC’s Carlyn Presley opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net off of a rebound before the time clock struck double digits. In the 11th minute, Presley found her first brace of the season, scoring the second goal following a cross from Dara Russo. Russo’s assist marked her first of the season. 

After a series of dynamic passes and strong attacking plays, Courtney Chochol netted the third goal of the evening in the 25th minute of play, with an assist by Presley. 

The dynamic duo Chochol and Presley found another major scoring opportunity in the 34th minute, each taking a shot on goal, but both attempts were saved by the Fury’s backline. 

While Tormenta’s attackers kept the ball in the Fury’s half for much of the match, Tormenta’s defense made several key blocks and clearances to continue supporting Tormenta’s quest in netting as many goals as possible in its last match of the season. 

In the 39th minute, Presley upgraded her goal scoring from a brace to a hat trick, scoring her third goal before halftime. 

With a first-half hat trick, intense attacking movements by Tormenta endured into the second half. Multiple promising chances came to Tormenta, with corner kicks and free kicks emerging early into the second half. 

Chochol scored her second goal of the evening in the 47th minute, signifying her second brace of the season. Chochol was intent on making her last match one for the books, and in the 61st minute, she scored once again, her first hat trick of the season.

Head Coach Jim Robbins made several substitutions throughout the match, including bringing on Tee Headman, who is also a member of Tormenta FC’s USL Academy team, in her season debut for W League. Headman took a shot in the 78th minute of play, which hit the post and went out of bounds. 

Moments later, defender Briana Eads took a long-range shot and found the back of the net for Tormenta’s seventh and final goal of the night.

STATESBORO, Ga. – June 28, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC is slated to host Fayetteville Fury on Sunday, June 30 at Tormenta Stadium. Tormenta FC is still on the hunt for a wild card spot as the team enters the final day of the 2024 regular season.

South Georgia enters the match following a midweek win against Wake FC, clinching victory with a 0-1 score. Fayetteville Fury enters Sunday’s match following a 6-0 defeat to NC Fusion. Sunday’s match will be the second time the two teams face each other. South Georgia beat Fayetteville 5-0 the last time the two sides faced each other during Tormenta’s season opener.

Key Ingredients

Carlyn Presley netted her second goal of the season during Wednesday’s midweek match. Presley found the back of the net in the 82nd minute against Wake FC to secure a crucial three points on the road for South Georgia.

Jenna Moran kept the clean sheet during Wednesday’s match, marking her third clean sheet of the season. Moran has played an essential role for South Georgia this season as a leader of the defense that has conceded just ten goals during the 2024 campaign.

Foe’s Formula

Fayetteville’s coaching staff will look to Stephanie Quintanilla as the team looks to get on the scoreboard Sunday. Tormenta FC Head Coach Jim Robbins will be looking to stop Fayetteville’s winger as she tries to score the club’s second goal of the season.

HOLLY SPRINGS, Nc. – June 26, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League earned an additional three points in league standings, emerging victorious in its only matchup against Wake FC in Holly Springs, North Carolina with a 0-1 score.

With a potential playoff spot on the line, Tormenta showed an early aggression that endured through the entire match, eagerly pushing the ball up the wings in search of a goal. A second-half goal narrowly solidified the win. 

South Georgia saw multiple scoring opportunities, taking more than eight shots in the first half with five being on target. While unable to convert these first-half attempts, the Ibises proved their fervor and dedication to making an advancement toward a coveted playoff spot. 

A penalty awarded to South Georgia following a foul on Carlyn Presley in the penalty area gave South Georgia one of its strongest chances at a goal in the first half. The 2024 season’s top scorer for Tormenta, Elis Nemtsov, stepped up to take the penalty but ultimately shot the ball high over the crossbar.  

In the 56th minute of play, Nemtsov took another shot from a loose ball in the box, but the attempt was caught by Wake FC’s keeper. 

As the match progressed, South Georgia found itself intent on making aggressive plays. Sarah Hagg of Tormenta was shown a yellow card. This foul gave Wake FC its closest chance at finding a goal, but the ball was quickly cleared out by Tormenta’s defense. 

In the 82nd minute, Courtney Chochol sent a cross bounding to Carlyn Presley, who tucked the ball past the keeper into the net. The goal marks Chochol’s first assist and Presley’s second goal of the season. 

The lone goal of the evening solidified the Tormenta FC win. South Georgia will learn in the coming days if the June 26 win was enough to punch the ticket to playoffs.

STATESBORO, Ga. – June 25, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League is slated to face Wake FC at 7:30 p.m. on June 26 at Ting Park. Wednesday’s match will be the first and only time the two sides face each other in 2024.

South Georgia enters Wednesday’s match with a 7-1-2 (W-L-D) record. Wake FC enters the match with a 6-4-1 record, trailing four points behind South Georgia in league standings.

Tormenta FC’s Tal Faingezicht played the full 90 minutes in South Georgia’s midfield in the team’s 2-1 win against the Charlotte Eagles. The match was her first start for the Ibises as she brought balance to the midfield.

South Georgia will once again turn to Courtney Chochol for goals during Wednesday’s top-of-the-table matchup. The forward has netted five goals for South Georgia this season and will look to increase her tally on Wednesday.

Annika Wohner will be a player Tormenta FC looks to keep at bay during the 90 minutes on Wednesday. The North Carolina State midfielder scored in the 90th minute against the Charlotte Eagles to close out a 2-0 win.

Gabrielle Hoschek, a regular face on the NC Fusion roster, has made significant playing contributions to her collegiate team Elon University. STATESBORO, Ga. – June 19, 2024 – For the second time this season, South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League emerged victorious against the Charlotte Eagles, finding a 2-1 score at home. A late goal cemented the victory for South Georgia. 

Each team entered the match with unique displays of strength, both pushing to send the ball down the field to promote goal-scoring chances. South Georgia found the evening’s opening goal in the 17th minute when Smith Cathey sent a shot past the keeper into the bottom of the net, giving Tormenta the early lead.

The Charlotte Eagles found multiple opportunities in the first half but these shots went without conversion, following key clearances by Tormenta’s defense and skillful saves by keeper Jenna Moran.

Tormenta remained aggressive in its advances, making multiple attacking plays to seek out opportunities. South Georgia’s Carlyn Presley and Momo Nakao both took multiple first-half shots toward Charlotte’s keeper.

With the score stagnant at 1-0 entering the second half, the Ibises were intent on collecting a second goal to bolster the lead. The Charlotte Eagles’ backline remained strong, forcing South Georgia to fight to maintain possession. South Georgia’s defense preserved the lead with care, making integral plays to block Charlotte from finding goal-scoring opportunities.

As the second half progressed, the match became filled with transitional plays, as each team battled to make advancing plays.

In the 84th minute of play, Charlotte found a temporary equalizing goal. Three minutes later, Tormenta’s Alice Bussey was fouled in the penalty area, earning a penalty kick. Bussey stepped up to take the kick and converted the attempt, giving South Georgia back the lead. This goal was the last of the evening, signifying a Tormenta FC victory.

Currently, Tormenta FC sits at third in the league standings and the Eagles sit in seventh. Tormenta possesses a powerful 5-1-2 (W-L-D) record for the season, and Charlotte has a 1-8-0 record.

Tormenta FC’s defensive line played a crucial role in maintaining the clean sheet during the last match against the Eagles. Tormenta’s dynamic plays and aggressive clearances pose a risk to attackers in any match but proved to be a grave threat to the Eagles in particular. 

Carlyn Presley, who has netted one goal this season and created numerous chances, has become a familiar face to South Georgia’s starting XI. The midfielder’s strong attacks and keen sense of where to slot the ball gives Tormenta FC a key edge on the pitch.
