STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced Savannah, Georgia, native Allie Rathbun to its 2022 USL W League roster, pending league and federation approval.
“Allie is another player who brings a wealth of high-level youth and college experience to Tormenta,” USL W League Head Coach Jim Robbins said. “She can play either as an outside back or a center forward, and our goal is to utilize her skill set, and her proven ability to be dangerous and score goals, as a forward in our system.
“She is another dangerous attacking option for our team. I am confident that she will score and create goals for her team at the W League level. Allie will be fun to watch…and a handful to defend.”
The versatile forward returns to South Georgia after culminating her 2021 season with the University of Memphis where she served a key defensive role, helping the Tigers secure 11 shutouts. Rathburn was a motivating force for her peers and helped the team finish with a winning 14-5-2 record.
Rathbun played a total of 35 matches as a Tiger and contributed three goals and one assist. The Savannah native was also named to the 2019 and 2020 AAC All-Academic teams.
Prior to joining the University of Memphis, Rathbun gained high-level youth experience with Jacksonville Armada FC and also competed as a member of the Georgia State Olympic Development Team (ODP) and the Region III ODP team.
“I am excited to be playing for Tormenta FC’s USL W league team because it is close to home and offers a competitive environment,” Rathburn said. “I’m looking forward to competing and getting better this summer season.”
In June of 2021, Tormenta FC was named a founding member of the USL W League, an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch. For two decades between 1995 and 2015, the W League saw some of the biggest names past and present in the sport compete on the field, and this new era will build on the legacy of its predecessor. In alignment with the USL League Two season, the W League will kick off in May and end with the W League Playoffs and W League Final in late July.
