STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC travels to South Carolina to take on league rival Greenville Triumph SC at Early Legacy College this Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m. ET. Tormenta FC seeks its first regular-season win of the 2022 season after upsetting USL Championship sides Charleston Battery and Birmingham Legion FC in the early rounds of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
“We are still a bit frustrated with the result against NCFC. We started off slow, but that is football. Against Omaha, we proved we could compete against any team in the league, and the U.S. Open Cup results against Birmingham and Charleston also help us make our case.”
Ian Cameron, Tormenta FC Head Coach
“We are eager to put some points on the board,” Cameron continued. “Saturday’s game against Greenville can be an opportunity for us to get our first win in the league and start our movement up the USL League One table.”
Last Saturday, Tormenta FC took on USL League One winners Union Omaha in one of the most intense battles of the weekend. In 90 hard-fought minutes, South Georgia drew 0-0 to Union Omaha, earning its first point of the season and first clean sheet.
After a 2-0 win in Birmingham, Alabama, last Tuesday, Tormenta FC will continue its 2022 Open Cup journey against Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami CF on Tuesday, May 10. The Statesboro side found its first goal of the game through a Curtis Thorn shot on target, followed by a Jake Dengler goal in the 45th minute.
“We all know how good Greenville has been for the past years in the competition. Our previous results against the Triumph give us a little extra motivation. I’m looking forward to my first away game as a professional, especially with the atmosphere created by their fans and their past success in the league.”
Gabriel Cabral, Tormenta FC Midfielder
Greenville battled in a 2-1 defeat against Charlotte FC of Major League Soccer on April 20, bowing out of the 2022 Open Cup. The Triumph brought the challenge until the last second of extra time against Charlotte, who fielded a strong starting XI. Currently winless, Greenville has a difficult task this Saturday, as their last three encounters against Tormenta FC have concluded in losses.
Tormenta FC is excited for a historic 2022 as it transitions from Erk Russell Park to Tormenta Stadium. Single-match tickets are live for advance purchase ahead of Saturday’s match. Supporters can also purchase season memberships or Flex Ticket packages to guarantee their presence at every home match this season.
