STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the addition of defenders Reagan Tate, Malene Duus and Alicia Zamora to its inaugural 2022 USL W League roster, pending league and federation approval. The talented group joins a fighting Tormenta FC roster under the helm of Head Coach Jim Robbins ahead of tonight’s inaugural kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET from Erk Russell Park.
Tate, 22, brings four years of experience representing the Old Dominion University women’s soccer program. Through those years, she has accumulated 44 appearances for the Monarchs. Tate’s ability to play as a defender and throughout the midfield makes her a versatile player that will bring experience and mobility to the young Tormenta FC core.
“Reagan is a dynamic outside back who can build from the back, connect the game with easy and simple passes, and get forward to join the attack in the final third,” Robbins said. “She can combine with front players, provide quality service in the box, and challenge GKs with long range shots from outside the penalty area.
“Defensively, Reagan is not afraid to play physical and is very good at defending one-on-one. She is one of the best that I have seen in a while at blocking shots and serves to help out her GK.”

Joining the defensive unit, Malene Duus crafts her skills as a second-year member of the Tennessee Wesleyan University women’s soccer program. Duus ended the 2020-21 season as one of the top assisters (5) for the Bulldogs. Duus is a native of Augustenborg, Denmark and has trialed for the Danish National team.
“Malene brings a wealth of experience to the center back position on our team. She is very comfortable on the ball and in possession and she can build the game from the back very effectively and efficiently. Her range of passing is excellent and is accurate with short, intermediate, and long passes.”

“Duus provides great service on restarts and free kicks, too,” Robbins said. “She is a patient 1v1 defender who can tackle and block shots when needed. She is also a vocal leader who can lead and organize her team during the run of play.”
Hailing from NAIA women’s soccer powerhouse Central Methodist University, Alicia Zamora joins Tormenta FC hoping to push for a title run. In 2021, Zamora helped Methodist finish their season 22-2-0, leading the Eagles to the NAIA National Semifinals. Zamora has played every game (48) for Central Methodist since arriving to the program. The Valladolid, Spain, native has proven to be a clinical finisher as she’s scored eight goals since arriving at Central Methodist.
“Alicia is an accomplished center back who can play either on the right or the left, Robbins said. “She is another player who can possess the ball and build the game up from the back. She can make all the passes, and she can go forward off the dribble when needed.
“Zamora is good in front of goal, too, and can score goals from restarts or through the run of play. Her ability on both sides of the ball will add an additional dimension to our team and how we would like to play. I look forward to watching her play in the league this summer.”

In June of 2021, Tormenta FC was named a founding member of the USL W League, an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch. For two decades between 1995 and 2015, the W League saw some of the biggest names past and present in the sport compete on the field, and this new era will build on the legacy of its predecessor. In alignment with the USL League Two season, the W League will kick off in May and end with the W League Playoffs and W League Final in late July.
