STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC battled with Southern Soccer Academy tonight on the road, with two beautiful goals by Elis Nemtsov and Amy Andrews, finishing with a final score of 2-2.
Southern Soccer started the action off in the 8th minute with a corner resulting in an almost header, but it went just wide of the goal. Tormenta FC followed with a corner as well, but it was Southern Soccer who scored first in the 17th minute.
South Georgia responded with a 10th-minute chance, a volley from just inside the 18. Finally, Georgia Southern University’s Elis Nemtsov evened up the match with her first goal for Tormenta FC in the 35th minute, a beautiful half volley that brought the score to 1-1.
Following its goal, Tormenta FC was controlling the match and the possession well by the 39th minute with more solid chances from the offense. In the 43rd minute, forward Amy Andrews added her third goal of the season to put South Georgia in the lead 2-1. Andrews took control of the ball off a breakaway and beat the goalkeeper one-on-one with a high shot that the keeper just barely got a hand on.
After entering the second half, the possession was an even give and take between the two sides, and Tormenta FC continued with more close chances from Andrews and Jenae Packard. Goalkeeper Sydney Martinez and her backline stood strong through SSA’s attack which grew stronger throughout the second half, eventually leading to a goal in the 81st minute. Tormenta FC then kept off any more opportunities from the home side to preserve its point.
Tonight’s Player of the Match presented by Galactic Comics and Games is Jaida Nyby who had excellent field coverage and distribution and was crucial in connecting the attack to the rest of the pitch to create scoring chances.
