STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC brought three points back to Statesboro and helped keep playoff dreams alive following a 4-0 win at Peachtree City MOBA tonight. Braces from Allie Rathbun and Amy Andrews helped Tormenta FC get their third win of the USL W League season with a statement performance from South Georgia on the road this Thursday night.
Tormenta FC wasted no time as Amy Andrews nearly found the head of Jenae Packard in the fourth minute with a beautiful service, but the MOBA keeper rushed out to put out the danger. South Georgia beat down the MOBA defense with two more chances in the first 11 minutes, coming from Erin O’Hearn and Isabella Gutierrez.
MOBA stood no chance against Tormenta FC’s offensive powerhouse commanded by Amy Andrews and Allie Rathbun; a powerful performance by the defensive unit helped South Georgia prevail over a winless MOBA team.
Allie Rathbun opened the scoring flood gates in the 58th minute with a beautiful strike assisted expertly by midfielder Jaida Nyby. Andrews followed with two incredible goals, a chip in the 81st minute and a half volley in the 85th, to secure her brace for the night. Rathbun then sealed the 4-0 scoreline in the 92nd minute of the match with a shot that troubled the MOBA keeper.
Tonight’s Player of the Match presented by Galactic Comics and Games is forward Amy Andrews, who scored her second brace of the season and was a constant threat to the home side tonight.
