STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL W League team took on Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves SC tonight for the second time this season, finishing with a final score of 1-1 at Erk Russell Park. Tormenta FC played with passion tonight as they fought hard to remain top of the South Central Division.
Tonight’s first shot on goal of the game came in the 17th minute from Amy Andrews, who was searching to break the evenly-matched game. As Tormenta FC pushed through tonight, Emily Burke attacked the goal in the 35th minute for a shot that just went over the crossbar. After a continuous fight from both sides, the halftime whistle blew with nothing separating the two sides through 45 minutes.
Chattanooga started the action off in the 54th minute with a corner, resulting in a stop by goalkeeper Sydeny Martinez. In the 65th minute, Abby Wolf fought through defenders with a strong kick that went just over the goal.
Tormenta FC was finally able to break through in the 78th minute. Jaida Nyby sent a precise through ball to Andrews, who fired away perfectly. Chattanooga’s keeper, Jess Shepherd, was left without a response, giving the home side the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Red Wolves were able to get the equalizer, though, after a free kick in the 92nd minute, bringing the score to 1-1.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Sydney Martinez. Martinez locked it down tonight, providing crucial saves to help Tormenta FC remain in first place of the South Central Division and hold its destiny in its own hands.
