PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – In its second to last game of the 2022 USL W League regular season, South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL W League team was able to win its third consecutive game over Peachtree City MOBA, thanks to an Amy Andrews brace. With this win, Tormenta FC is now in first place in the South Central Division.
An inspired MOBA team came out aiming to find a goal in the first few minutes of the game. However, Sydney Martinez was put to work with a save in the seventh minute to send an unpredictable ball out of play. Martinez featured again, making a crucial save near the front post after a powerful shot from Carlie Banks.
In the 43rd minute, South Georgia’s Andrews found her thirteenth goal of the season after firing a bouncing ball in the penalty area to the far side of the net. It was an important goal that sealed an intriguing first half for South Georgia.
Tormenta FC found the back of the net for the second time tonight in the 61st minute of the second half. An impeccable pass by Abigail Wolf into the penalty box found a lone Andrews, whose first attempt was obstructed by the opposing goalkeeper. However, the rebounded ball left her alone on goal, allowing her to shoot it into the back of the net, adding her 14th goal of the season. The second goal of comfort had Tormenta FC rolling in the final 30 minutes of the game.
With one game left in the regular season, South Georgia holds glory in its own hands. A win on Sunday would automatically secure a spot in the inaugural USL W League Playoffs and the South Central Division title.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Abigail Wolf. Wolf was a handful in the right-back position and provided crucial passes on the offensive end, assisting in tonight’s second goal. Wolf also helped hold a clean sheet in tonight’s game.
