MIAMI, Fla. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL W League playoff run continues after defeating the previously undefeated FC Miami City on the road. A goal by Amy Andrews sealed tonight’s win in Miami. South Georgia was a consistent threat all night, providing many scoring opportunities. Sydney Martinez provided impeccable saves all night, keeping Miami City scoreless.
Tormenta FC knew an early goal was crucial in setting the pace to tonight’s game. Less than a minute into the match, South Georgia was able to find two shots on goal after a poor defensive read from the home side. Andrews’ through ball to Jenae Packard put her alone against the goalkeeper, but her shot was saved with the rebound turning into another opportunity that was controlled by the goalkeeper.
As both sides continued to battle it out, Erin O’Hearn received a cross from Andrews that went just over the crossbar in the 20th minute. The pressure continued for the Miami City goalkeeper nearing the end of the first half. Andrews delivered a precise free kick that hit the crossbar.
South Georgia’s offensive pressure was finally rewarded in the 62nd minute. A great passing segment was finalized in a Nemtsov cross to the penalty box where a lone Andrews simply tapped it in.
The South Georgia defense held strong throughout the 90 minutes with much help from Sydney Martinez, leaving the score 0-1 for the first win of the 2022 W League semifinals.
