GREENVILLE, Sc. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL W League team advances to the USL W League final following a brace from Amy Andrews and goals from Remi Olalere and Jaida Nyby. With this 1-4 win against Greenville Liberty SC, Tormenta FC advances to its first final in club history and will take on Minnesota Aurora FC on the road. South Georgia was a consistent threat all night, creating many scoring opportunities.
Both teams came out to win; a very intense start to the match saw both teams get shots on target to try and find a goal in the first half. However, great chemistry by South Georgia outplayed the strong Liberty side, which tested Sydney Martinez with dangerous opportunities. Jaida Nyby had one of the best opportunities in the first half, with the shot kissing outside the net, fooling many.
In the second half, with everything to win and nothing to lose, South Georgia took a massive leap toward victory after a volley from Olalere found the back of the net eight minutes into the second half after entering the game for Elis Nemtsov earlier in the first half.
Conti found the equalizer for Liberty following constant pressing from the home side. A turn and shot from Conti saw her beat Martinez in one of their few opportunities of the night.
In the 69th minute, Andrews found her 18th goal of the 2022 season and helped South Georgia regain the lead after several rebounds near the penalty box found her, beating the strong Greenville defensive line.
Following an Andrews run from the wing, which was placed into the middle of the penalty box. A miscommunication in the 73rd minute from the Liberty defense allowed Nyby to slide through the Liberty defense and find an easy tap in, beating the defensive line to the ball.
Andrews sealed the night’s final goal with a strike from afar slipping through the keeper’s hands, adding to a firm lead that South Georgia never let go. With the final goal of the night, Andrews edges closer to a 20-goal season as she ends the night with 19 goals scored throughout her time with Tormenta FC.
