STATESBORO, Ga. – The inaugural South Central Division winner, South Georgia Tormenta FC will have the opportunity to win its first club title, taking on the Minnesota Aurora FC in the first edition of the USL W League Final this Saturday, June 23, from TCO Stadium, at 8 p.m. ET. In an expected crowd of over 6,000 fans, both teams will compete in a final like no other; both come with impressive offensive and defensive lines that take a lot to break down.
Earlier in the week, the USL W league announced South Georgia’s Sydney Martinez as the recipient of the Golden Glove and Amy Andrews the recipient of the Golden Boot. Friday, the league announced Andrews as the 2022 W League Player of the Year.
South Georgia continues to prove why it is one of the best teams in the nation. After stellar wins against FC Miami City and Greenville Liberty SC on the road, South Georgia aims to complete the trifecta of wins on the road throughout its playoff run. Andrews’ three goals through the playoffs put her at 19 total goals this season.
Andrews finished the regular season as the highest goal scorer for Tormenta FC. Scoring 16 goals in 10 games played made her average a goal every 53 minutes. Andrews leads the league in goals with sixteen goals and has set numerous records at Tormenta FC. A game-winning goal in Miami and a brace against the Liberty in the semifinals has Andrews on the verge of scoring 20 goals in a season, a record that may stand for many years to come.
Aurora FC is the only undefeated team remaining in the W League. Aurora FC knocked Indy Eleven out in the quarterfinals and defeated one of the best teams in the nation, McLean Soccer Club, in the semifinals.

In June of 2021, Tormenta FC was named a founding member of the USL W League, an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch. For two decades between 1995 and 2015, the W League saw some of the biggest names past and present in the sport compete on the field, and this new era will build on the legacy of its predecessor. In alignment with the USL League Two season, the W League will kick off in May and end with the W League Playoffs and W League Final in late July.
